I went to Karatsu (the small town Hasetsu was based on) yesterday, and I found an info that might be of your interest, or at least useful: Karatsu used to have numerous shrines (they are all enshrined by Umi no Kamisama--the ocean gods). But because of the WW2, the population declined and the shrines couldn't be maintained. Eventually they combined--in their word, goshi-- all the shrines into one; Karatsu shrine. It must be a shock for Blackbird!Yuuri when he came back home decades later.
This is a super interesting bit of information for worldbuilding wrt Hasetsu, not just in the Blackbird context. Thanks for sharing!
I didn't know you studied abroad in Indonesia! (How did you strand here omg). I'm a big fan of your writing, so I'm (weirdly??) pleasantly surprised. Could you tell us more with your experience here? I find it delightful to hear about our own country from other's perspective :)
i spent the summer of 2009 in indonesia, and i have missed it every day since. i travelled from jakarta to jogjakarta in java, then took a 26 hour bus ride and ferry to ubud in bali, and another ferry after that to senggigi in lombok. a lot of what we were doing was critically examining the role of religion in media, as well as the broad cultural history and how it influences modern collective consciousness.
i fell so in love with the culture, the lifestyle, THE FOOD. oh my god, the food!!! after i came back, i randomly met a girl from indonesia when i was working retail, and she invited me to her grandma’s house so i could learn how to make nasi goreng and ayam goreng.
honestly, when i think of the happiest i’ve ever been in my life, and the most alive i’ve ever felt, it was in indonesia. i learned so much from the experiences i was fortunate enough to have there. indonesian was pretty easy for me to pick up in a couple weeks (unfortunately i’ve lost nearly all of it except for saya tidak bisa bahasa indonesia, sigh), but by the time we were in senggigi, it was really easy to make local friends and hire a motorbike to do some independent traveling.
probably the biggest mistake of my life is that i had an opportunity to go work in indonesia after i graduated from college for two years in south sulawesi, but turned it down because i was in a relationship with someone that i thought i was going to marry. i would go back in a hot second for any reason if given the opportunity.
HERE IS A PICTURE OF BULE AFTER HE POOPED IN MY SHOES I LOVED HIM.
Magic Pixie Dream Steve
Hi there! I want to recommend the series The Fray Will Become Me by mugworth_and_myrrh : a canon divergent AU in which Sarah hooked up with one particular green immortal sorcerer from another world and thus Steve was born not quite human. It’s a story of Sorcerer!Spy!Feral!Shapeshifting!Crossdressing! Steve. It’s so well written and really hilarious at times. Steve’s relationship with Bucky is frustratingly beautiful too, so is his relationship with the green, immortal, trickster father :D
thetwolattes Ngl probably because YoI has a lot of Korean fans, they're hinting on Seunggil's further involvement in movie/season 2 (for 4CC or Pyeongyang), or both.
I constantly scour auction sites and and I can vouch that Seung Gil does not have a popularity level that warrants the amount of merchandise he gets. YOI’s amount of Korean fans is also not disproportionately large to the amount of fans it has in other countries. It has a huge international fanbase. I mean in all honestly YOI has a bajillion American fans if that’s the case why isn’t there a weird surplus of Leo merchandise made.
YOI has been overmarketing Seung Gil since the beginning just like they’ve been overmarketing Mickey and IDGI (though Mickey does have a lot more screentime than Seung Gil).
Also I really do doubt that Seung Gil is going to suddenly have a much bigger role in S2 than the GPF six, especially considering Kubo and Sayo have said that they’re only starting to sketch out the film. Seung Gil’s more commonly seen in sets than even Otabek, and we all know how popular Otabek is (this is starting to change, but for the longest time it was the case).
Rules: Tag 9 people you want to get to know better! Tagged by: @where-his-towel-is Relationship Status: Single; not out of prefference, but because the creeps, old guys, and druggies flirty people at work are creepy aren't exactly my cup of tea. Favourite Colour: Purple. Pink. Blue. Any of those, but mostly PURPLE. Give me all the purple!. Lipstick or Chapstick: I can't wear make-up without lipstick when I wear it. I LOVE Lisptick. I have trouble finding affordable, cruelty-free lipbalms where I live, so don't really use them, but I'm a fiend for Urban Decay plus they have lots of purple shades like Pandemonium. Last Song you Listened to: 'Soulmate' by Natasha Bedingfield. Last Film you Watched: Probably 'Moana', but it was weeks ago? I can't remember exactly. Either that or 'Fantastic Beast & Where To Find Them'. It was one or the other. Top Three Characters Hmm... Difficult. I tend to pick favourites as I travel through fandoms and pairings, so RN its Viktor & Yuuri, but long time favourites...? Probably... 'Trafgar D. Water Law'from One Piece, 'Daenerys Targaryen' from GOT/ASOIAF, and 'Atobe Keigo' from Prince of Tennis. Viktuuri is probably gonna knock someone of their podium spot though - yes, both of them togheter, YOU CAN'T SEPERATE THEM THEY'RE SOULMATES AHSKSKJDJ. Top Three Ships: As of right now, Victuuri,LawLu, and...Kaneki/Anyone/Happiness? Like literally anyone. I'm a trash multi-shipper for Kaneki. Ayakane, TouKen, TsukiKen, Hideki, anything. JUST LET THE MAN BE HAPPY! Books and/or Manga you are Currently Reading: Aside from the hundreds of Victuuri Fanfics? RN, my booklist is: The Martian by Andy Weir (for the sass, for being the only sci-fi anything I can stand cause it ain't full of freaking aliens, #RESEARCH GOALS, sarcasm, humour, the indomitable will of fate and giving it the finger, FuckYouMars) Bewitched & Bewildered Series by Alanea Alder (Het p0rn, sass, magic, shifters, technically a BodiceRipper™, Meryn's zero fucks, and Aiden's Adventures at Bert's Store, trash romance tbh, but cracks me up, not to be taken too seriously, but good for a light, fun read) Earth's Children Series by Jean M. Auel (prehistoric, coming of age, overcomig adversity and abuse, action, adventure, romance, a bit of everything, also het p0rn, also #RESEARCH GOALS). Hannah Swensen Series by Joanne Fluke (murder, mystery, dry humour, and the BEST cookie recipies) Harry Potter by J.K.Rowling (I quote: 'Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home' so it is there to welcome me home.) The Codex Alera Series by Jim Butcher (Sass, action, bits of evrything, magic, character development, coming of age, a really intersting take on a villain, getting along with the neighbour countries and races, all-around fantasy shennanigans.) Recceiver of Many and Destroyer of Light by Rachel Alexander (Greek Mythology, Hades, Persephone, fantasy, more het p0rn, did I mention this began in the mythology section of FF.Net?) I will NEVER not be able to flip nto a random chapter of David Eddings Belgariad and Mallorean Series' and get lost. Eversince I was off sick from high school at 12, and my grandmother started reading this to me to pass the time, it has been my absoloute favourite series of all time, or at least, it ties with Harry Potter. Why? SO MUCH GODDAMN SASS, sarcasm, wit, dry and not so dry humour, opinionated, strong female characters in a fantasy setting, character development, action, adventure magic, romance, comig of age, big ass swords, sentinent magic stones, worldbuilding AJKSDKDNSCL;DEJESJSJALKDKDYGETEINIDKNNNNHJJJJJJJJKKKKKHHHH. Technically, I'm also reading Lord of The Rings by J.R.R.Tolkein, but... I've been trying to finish Fellowship for 12 years and so far all I've got to is Tom Bombadill, so I'm not including it because it a fekkin' long-ass work in progress. Guys, why can't i finish it? Top 5 Musicals: Err... I feel like a failure since I studied drama for over 7 years, but I haven't actually seen that many? I'm just going to list the ones I know of? It's pretty shamefull that I've actually MET Cameron Mackintosh, and his musical is the lowest on the list tho... 5) Cats (my Eema had this on video and I remember being confused AF watching it when I was about 7, before my grandfather took pity on me and turned it off to put Basil The Great Mouse Detective on instead. 4) TeniPuri Musical (saw a song from it from the Rikaidai ark thet was just SIN) 3) A Very Potter Musical (I haven't actually watched this yet, but heard is funny?) 2) Grease; The Musical (seen with my Eema at the theatre) 1) Blood Brothers (as above, also I've performed extracts in my drama courses).
