Like beeswax doesn't. It kinda just stays as beeswax in the soap. The lye has nowhere to go with it. That liquid seeping out of the soap? The brown and clear drops?? That's lye. That's straight up lye. This mf made the soap equivalent of the Chernobyl elephants foot.

Quick reminder that if you touch lye with your bare hands, it will react with the fatty oils on and in your skin to create soap molecules.

That means it will give you chemical burns while creating human soap.

Please be careful when making soap, because You are a thing that could be used to make soap. And nobody wants to bathe in human soap, no matter how much rosemary you put in it.

I work with lye professionally in my job as a pastry chef (we make traditional pretzel nibs and buns for the restaurant I work in) and when I tell you I am so???? Concerned??? What do you mean you used .7 lbs of lye?!?! Please dispose of that safely immediately?!?! And by safely I mean I need you to put on two layers of gloves, preferably that go up to your shoulders. A plastic apron and eye protection. Vinegar neutralizes lye so get literally the largest container of white vinegar you can and... Carefully... CAREFULLY!!! Just... Place your entire beeswax lye monstrosity in a tub of that shit and change the vinegar out until it stops foaming. I have permanent scarring on my arms from DROPS of diluted lye getting on them during my work process. One of my coworkers got it in her eye because she stupidly wasn't wearing eye protection and lemme tell you that's one way to fast track admittance to an emergency room. Do not stop. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Like... This is so unsafe?!?!

actually, i should just say this in its own post--if you're ever looking for a translation of anything ancient greek, ian johnston has a ton of translations that are both genuinely good and completely free to read. a lot of the time free translations are really old or just not that good but this man has translated, like, everything from homer to sophocles to kafka to nietzche and he's done it extremely well. i didn't think he had an antigone but i just looked and not only does he have one but it's genuinely very good. so i highly recommend his website as a resource!
