Thoughts on Zenkichi's build? (I've been wanting to draw him and been very split on how I think he should look.)

I know people like to give him "he's skinny and has shit posture," but I raise the bad posture and lack of arms to:

defined arms with not an insane amount of muscle in his torso, but enough that he can easily take down suspects and manage to also handle himself in a fight when he concentrates.

man's a fucking PubSec agent for God's sake, give him a little muscle and some body scars, i'm beggin' y'all.

May I offer you; Valjean starts off as what Zenkichi would describe as a 'Jerkass' but it's only because Valjean is trying to help him and Zenkichi doesn't know how to respond to that.

So fun fact! The series is starting with Apostle Arcana still and also has the one-off 'A Wolf in Thieves' Clothing' (!), and then we get to go into the- less-jerkass-more-support chain of things.

Which means: new "Zenkichi confronts Joker's dad" fic, new (!) kidnapping fic, among others:

You should make Valjean like the father Zenkichi never had- because look me in the eyes and tell me this man doesn't have daddy issues

No one knows about the headcanon I have with his dad except like two people actually. Under the tag due to serious subject matter.

Tell me his dad didn't emotionally and mentally abuse him when he was a kid, tell me his dad thought being a cop wasn't a profession and to keep his head down for the sake of the family name.

Tell me his father didn't berate him and size him up when he tried to bite back and defend himself, only for his dad to push him back and assert dominance with his figure.

tell me his father didn't ever look at him in the eyes when he spoke; he waved off achievements like they were something every other kid could do in the world with half the time and energy.

tell me his family wasn't well-known for being parents with outrageous expectations, specifically for his younger sister Saori Hasegawa. Tell me he didn't try to go to Iwatodai to keep an eye on her and couldn't get a job as a cop so he was forced to hear her in tears when his father pulled her out of school to go somewhere private. she told him about Kotone later and how kind she was to her, her first true friend.

when Aoi's parents were nothing but kind to him and offered their home for Akane when he was out chasing Owada, he kicked himself so often because he thought he didn't deserve any kindness from Aoi's parents.

he wants to be the dad that stepped up for these kids because his own left him in the rain on the steps and he won't ever let this cycle of shitty parenthood take hold of him ever again, especially after he awoke Valjean.

I feel like Zenkichi was a very prepared dad for Akane when she started her period and stuff. He made sure to do research to make up for the fact Aoi wasn't around anymore.

This even works in Striker's any if the girls on the team feel like crap and he just pulls out extra pain killers.

There are pads and tampons and an entire "emergency women" kit in the back of his car, and you can't tell me otherwise.

May I ask about Valkechi?

ahh, right. might not have been around during that era- it's had a lull, but with August coming, might be a little more rambling about him.

Valkichi is a- specific 'character' of sorts in my P5 'verse. as you might know (or don't) Valjean and Zenkichi have a different relationship from the Thieves and their own Personas. part of this relationship comes in the form of... possession.

this is where the 'possession AU' comes into play: my own take on Zenkichi and Valjean specifically, in which Valjean can take over Zenkichi's body and psyche and possess him- it's Valjean as a person. however, since Valjean is his other self, he's got to have a way to have the kids identity who's Valjean and... who's Zenkichi. and since, as Akane put it, it's really weird to call her dad 'Zenkichi' and his Persona by his first name, she kinda- meshes the names together like it's a ship name.

and it works, honestly. Zenkichi's stuck with glasses and long hair and the tired dad look, and Valkichi hangs around without glasses, yellow eyes- like the awakenings that have happened in the game- and his hair pulled back loosely to stay out of his face.

there's so much more I could say about him, but that's the bones of it for now. he's very near and dear to my heart, and he's shown off first in my "Akane finds out her dad is a PT" fic.

Zenkichi when Akane is old enough to learn how to drive teaches her, so now Akane never has a speeding ticket, but also drives like she knows better then any road sign that isn't one for construction, or showing danger.

I'm not saying Zenkichi is a bad driving instructor, but he is not above taking certain things with salt thanks to his years of driving.

Zenkichi has (absolutely???) been in car chases.

He's a hell of a person to teach someone to drive.

So it's all fair game that you aren't a fan of G*r*, he's not everyone's cup of tea: but may I ask what about fanfic left a bad taste about it in your mouth? I've never met many fans who don't like the character so I'm just a little curious is all.

The reason I never vocalize my dislike is that I'm older and don't feel like having a swarm of angry 20-somethings coming for me because of said outlook.

In terms of the fic that really left the worst taste in my mouth, pretty sure a ton of people who want a Strikers/Royal fic have read it: "Dared*vil, You've Hit the Wall". There were some changes in it that I didn't like at all; I'm well aware of the fic's relationship and how relevant it is to the plot, and I knew things would be altered.

What bothers me is how pushed aside the Strikers crew is and how minimized Zenkichi's arc is in it.

ALTERNATIVELY, the one fic that I really fucking love with Akech* in it is "Akech* plays discount shoulder angel".

But Dare*evil has just- not left a good taste in my mouth. Ever. I don't like to spit things but. Mrgh.
