Oceanus • Western State of Nereid Located on the west coast of the continent, Oceanus is a free state liberated from the tyranny of Lycos during the second Imperial revolution by a Lycon duke who was tired of watching his own people suffer under the hands of the Empire over a hundred and fifty years ago. Duke Proteus Errund, the first Governor and Leader of Oceanus, led a palace coup against the Emperor of Lycos at the time. Holding the Emperor prisoner, Errund managed to claim the land, his family lands and estate, to the east in exchange for the Lycon leader’s life and it has been a tempestuous independence ever since. Oceanus luckily has the help of Nereid’s terrain on their side as a mountain pass sits between Lycos and Oceanus making the journey between long and grueling. Though there have been several attempts through the years made by Lycos to take back the western lands and reclaim Oceanus to Lycos. The capital of Oceanus is Metis. The current governor, Governor Orion, has put forth his own efforts to arrange a strong alliance with Arethusa in hopes of protecting his people from further Lycon attacks. But the country is in serious debt, and even though their trade is bountiful their problems arise with pirates that sabotage their ships and steal their goods. Their only hope is an alliance with Arethusa with promise and hope of protection while retaining their freedom. The patron god of Oceanus is Ladon (Λάδων), a hundred-headed sea serpent who guards the western reaches of the sea and the mythical island where Goddess Eris’s famed golden apples hide.
