"Right, tired."
Alistair frowns at Marian, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Alright, that's fine. You don't have to do anything." He gestures towards the bed, gently taking her hand to guide her. "Now come on. Let's get you lying down and I'll take care of everything." When she moves, he notes that she does so slowly, like her body is weighing her down. But finally Marian sinks onto the mattress with a heavy sigh, and Alistair moves himself in front of her to crouch down.
He reaches for her boots. "You're too wound up," he continues as he begins to work at the laces. "That's the problem, isn't it? You need to let somebody else handle things for once." The first boot comes off and he sets it to the side before reaching for her legs again. Marian looks like she might argue, but he holds up a hand to stop her and is already moving to the second boot with the other. Fingers are steady on the knots as he continues speaking. "I know just what you need - you just have to let me do all the work. I'm good with that sort of thing."
Finally the second boot joins the first on the ground, and he stands to assess his work with a satisfied nod. But she is still sitting upright, looking stubborn about all of it.
"Really," he implores, "You don't have to worry about anything. I'll make sure you're completely taken care of. What else do you need?"
" move over , marian , you're taking up the whole bed . "

the room feels as if it was crafted to make her the sole focus, a powerful presence even just being in the same vicinity that it has gwendolyn somewhat off-kilter—even with varric's stories, marian hawke is all and more. ❝ pardon my intrusion, viscountess, but i must insist on our meeting. ❞
@theviscuntess liked for a starter!
HE'D HEARD STORIES OF THE INFAMOUS HAWKE. a refugee from lothering, who defied all odds and became a bit of a legend in the process. he respected that immensely about the woman. they had both managed to build new lives for themselves, despite the hardships they had faced during the fifth blight. despite both being mages. it didn't surprise him entirely when he learned that they both had amell blood coursing through their veins. having never met anyone from his real family before, silas wouldn't help make make a pit stop on his little quest.
one which had brought him kirkwall for a night for two — as he scoured thedas for answers to a certain warden predicament. what he was surprised about, however, was his cousin's taste in taverns. the hanged man made him feel as though he would be in need of a bath after leaving the premises. sitting down at a table, he waited patiently for the champion of kirkwall to make her grand entrance that evening.
@theviscuntess . " do you think i'm irredeemable? "
" irredeemable? " she repeats the word with incredulity. helena could describe marian hawke as many things, but she doubts that irredeemable would be among them. " no, i don't think you're irredeemable. " there's a conviction to her words as she says them, projecting a truth that she herself might also need to hear.
kirkwall makes a monster out of everybody. and if hawke was irredeemable, then so was she. helena, however, does not have the deeds that hawke has to prove her worth. just piles of hurts that are only tempered by her attempts to be good. " i'm not sure many people are completely irredeemable. "
@theviscuntess per our talk:
He's nervous about this meeting, mostly because he's usually nervous about meeting higher ups and that's especially true for the other surrounding nations. Ferelden depends on him to make a good impression while also looking strong while also looking eager to do business while also…
He's not good at most of it. Truly, the only thing he's really very good at is being charming and disarming a room by being the most awkward in it - and that's on a generous day.
It doesn't help that Varric has told him so much about Marian Hawke. He thought it would help to get all the intelligence he could from his friend and ally, but the tale the dwarf had spun - and he could sure spin a tale - had only left Alistair feeling slightly unextraordinary.
A capable mage, viscount of Kirkwall, bested an Arishok (Alistair can also lay claim to that title, at the very least), and a dozen other accomplishments Varric had gladly shared over the course of their journeys together and in preparation for this particular meeting.
Entrance is finally granted to the throne and Alistair allows himself to be escorted forward. "Viscountess Hawke," he calls as he approaches, and he lets his voice carry in the same way he must in his own throne room. Teagan once told him it shows that he carries authority, but he thinks it's the easiest way to sound like he's not totally terrified. "It's nice to see you again. I heard a lot has happened since last we ran into each other… what was it, at least five years ago, likely more."

his movements are measured upon his approach in the grand ballroom, dark eyes drifting over marian's imposingly beautiful figure with a hint of intrigue as fergus asks, ❝ may i have this dance? ❞
