Here's a peek at my latest painting "From Somewhere" featuring my friend @laineburnett 1500x1000mm Acrylic & Aerosol on canvas. . This painting was inspired by the Australasian White Faced Heron who was naturally introduced to our shores and is now considered a New Zealander. Being such an isolated group of islands at the bottom of the Pacific, we all carry stories of how we came to be here, be the recent, many generations before or from centuries ago. Exactly one year ago I met two very special wahine, Jenny Winipere Apatu-Mauger and Hinewai Hawaikirangi at the @pangeaseed @seawalls_ powhiwi at Otatara Pa in Napier. I'd been feeling lost and disconnected with what I really wanted to say with my artwork for some time. This was the moment where things burst to the surface and #thewahineproject was born. I have been doing a lot of reflecting on what it means to be a New Zealand woman; how I am influenced by the place I was born and raised and what it means to belong. . My artwork is inspired by my own journey of finding strength, self-worth and discovering my full potential. I am inspired by strong and beautiful women from all backgrounds and walks of life. .
