Inspired by MTA buses and the people who keep New York City moving, Tomo Mori’s “The Wheel’s on the Bus” (2018) at the Manhattanville Bus Depot in Harlem reflects the diversity of the surrounding community with the colorful laminated glass wheels derived from watercolors of fabric patterns from around the world, filling the space with light and color. Mori’s public art can be seen across the city at her summer 2019 installation at Governor’s Island, “The Life Given”, which imagines the lives of her daughter’s ancestors and honors their hard work and survival, presented in a personal family tree as an example for all families of the world.
