02215 // wanderlust
Not sure what it is about this town, but I've quickly come to love it. And quickly come to realize that, as big as it seems, town is a very appropriate word. Not in the sense that it's the size of one, but the hominess of it all, the friendly nature of things. Again, maybe I'm a bit off in my thinking, maybe I just haven't run into the bad side.
I was excited for this trip for quite a while, I'd have to say months, and that's not worn off one bit since I've been here. If anything, it's grown, through traversing the cities underground, or wandering the chilly streets, navigating the place that so reminds me of home. I'd come to expect that with many saying 'it's just a bigger Halifax', but until I got here, I didn't realize that statement could be so true.
Our first day here greeted us with a breeze, salty air and that familiar mist; streets opening onto the waterfront in nearly the same way they do 1000 km away. Amphibious tour vehicles dotted the streets as the city woke up from it's short slumber, as everyone joined in their daily rituals, staff and citizens alike combining to give the city that wonderful charm.
Charm that extended from the outside, from the streets, to the very attractions this city has to offer. Playful seals swimming about, blissfully unaware of their surroundings, to the penguins whose only worry must have been whether or not it was lunch. Everything just seemed so carefree... so.. small, and in a place so big, that's a hard ask.
Really when it came down to it, the city isn't that big, and the world we live in isn't that small. But when it comes down to it, it's all a matter of perspective, and if you can take everything in, underground and all, and still feel at home, I'd think someone's doing something right.
This city, it just feels right.
