"I have to go."

Ever since Rickon had been told that Robb was going to war, Rickon took turns being angry and hysterical. He knew that if Robb left Winterfell. Rickon’s brother would not return. Needless to say, he did not want his big brother to go to war. The youngest Stark wanted the eldest Stark to remain at Winterfell with him and Bran. However, Rickon knew that Robb had already made up his mind. Robb was going to free their father from being held captive. Yet, that did not stop Rickon from trying to keep his brother at their home.

“Please don’t go”, a tear-stained face Rickon begged his brother. “I don’t want you to go. I want you and Grey Wind to stay here with Shaggydog and I!” He could tell that Robb would not change his mind, which only upset Rickon greater. Robb was his protector and the last source of protection that Rickon had, since Eddard and Catelyn had left. Robb was also one of the people that Rickon aspired to be like. “Shaggy and I will come with you! We can be a pack! I promise that I’ll be good.” Alas, Rickon was to remain at Winterfell with Bran.

To show his brother that he could be as brave as him, Rickon wiped his tears off his face. He launched himself at Robb and gave him a hug that he did not release from. “I’ll be as strong as you one day, Robb! Then I can fight by your side, because brother’s protect each other!” He paused for a moment, as he tried to think of what to say next. “I hate goodbyes, so return soon! I’m going to miss you and Grey Wind heaps. I love you, Robb. I promise that I’ll be good for Bran and Maester Luwin.”

A smile quickly appeared on his face. “I know you’ll free Father! I believe in you, Robb.”
