Send me "Don't chase the rabbit" and your muse will be shown a random memory from my muse's past.
{ The world still looked like a beautiful place to her, then. Colors were vibrant. Sounds were crisp and clear. Smiling faces looked nothing but pleasant. What possibly could anyone have been hiding? They looked so happy!
Elizabeth had followed the jovial sounds of music and laughter to the boardwalk, taking in a pleased gasp. Gosh! Music! It looks like so much fun. She approaches quickly and enthusiastically--without a trace of apprehension--and is eagerly waved in by the group. Rejoice! Dance! And she happily obliged them. For too long, she'd kept still and quiet. At long last, she's able to stretch her legs and feel the sunlight on her skin.
Catching her reflection in one of the instruments, she smooths hairs out of her face, blue eyes lit with delight. }
"Come on! Dance! Dance with us!"
{ ...Wait, they're talking to her? Giggling girls not much older than her were beckoning her to the center of the circle and Elizabeth gladly complied, spinning in a circle and blurring the pretty colors of the sky. The sky that felt wrapped around her like a warm blanket. Welcome. You're safe now. }
"------Hey, Miss? Miss? Miss!"
{ Is that Mister DeWitt? She can barely hear him over the rhythmic clapping of her new dance partners. She can barely feel him over the euphoria filling spaces in her body that she didn't know she had. }
"Could you just---- ...Hey. I need you to stop. Please stop--...Miss...Miss...ELIZABETH!"
"Hello! Oh, this is wonderful! Oh, come dance with me Mister DeWitt!"
"I don't dance. C'mon, let's go."
"Why? What could be better than this?"
{ She spins, arms spread wide enough to catch them in her own peripheral vision before turning her expectant gaze back on Booker. }
"----------...How about Paris?"
"Paris? I don't understand! How could we get there?"
"Well, it's where that airship's goin' but if you wanna stay and dance, we can."
"No, let's go! C'mon, let's go! Let's go right now!"
{ She takes his hand, tugging him along eagerly after her. Elizabeth has been waiting a long time for her life to begin. Finally--thanks to Mister DeWitt--it's all starting to come together! She's never felt this...exuberance for life before.
Everything finally feels like it might actually be okay. }
