Oh hey! this was kinda fun, i noticed i pretty much just write the marauders and their little moments--like no one else has any lines. so anyway, i decided id try to do something different.

for prompt “devotion” @wolfstarmicrofic
“Please, Chief Warlock,” Remus starts again, he knows his voice is desperate, but he supposes that’s an accurate portrayal of his current state. “Just listen, Sirius’s devotion to the Order was unmatched. Anyone would tell you the same. He would not have done— this to James, Lily, and Harry.”
Remus can’t look over at Sirius right now. For one, McGonagall had said it would make him look too in love and biased or some such nonsense, but Remus Lupin was not one to ignore any advice from Minerva McGonagall. For another, he honestly didn’t think he could. He had searched Sirius out eagerly when they brought him in, shackles and all. He looked horrible. Already thin and pale, even though it had only been two weeks. He looked stricken like nothing made sense and the world was crumbling but was also resting entirely on his shoulders. Remus had nearly broken down just there. But he held it together, he had to, he had to bring him home.
For the last two days, he’s just been repeating himself over and over. But now, after some portly twerp in ridiculous robes pipes up something about how this should really be about James and Lily’s sacrifice, Remus breaks in, “James and Lily would never have wanted this.” His voice has turned dark and low and his gaze flicks over to Sirius who is looking right back. His eyes are clear, like something makes sense for the first time in a while. “James and Lily were some of the be-“ Remus’ voice breaks and he takes a deep breath before finishing, “James Potter and Lily Evans were some of best people I have ever known. Some of the best anyone has, I think. And they would be standing right here beside me. They would be appalled that their best friend is locked up and starving without a fair trial. They did not die for nothing. Do not make their sacrifice carry this ugly legacy.”
The Chief Warlock peers at him over his glasses. “Alright, Mr. Lupin.” His voice is gravelly and steady, “I do not appreciate you speaking out of turn,” Remus looks down. “And I do not agree that this is not a fair trial,” Remus winces. “However,” Remus breathes. “You raise some fair points.” Remus looks up. “How about, and this is only if he agrees, mind, but how about we try some veritaserum?” Remus smiles, small but very very real. He smiles, and breathes.
