Severus Tobias Snape. (rushed while I wrote it, sighs)
His mother was Eileen prince (born 1933), a pureblood witch who was disowned from her family after abandoning them for a muggle, Tobias Snape (born 1930). They once were in love, willing to be together during their early 20s. Tobias father had died in WWII and has had a horrid relationship with his mother since he was a teen, eventually cutting all ties. As the years went by, he began working on machinery, and Eileen decided to become a seamstress, as it was her favorite pastime back in the wizarding world and she was quite skilled at it. Tobias started drinking because of the struggles that come with being poor, and because of his addiction he spended more money on alcohol, making saving money become even more of a struggle.
He became verbally abusive, yet never laid a hand on her. Once she became pregnant, he attempted to sober up, and Eileen was hopeful for their future together. Though after Severus birth, Eileen finally spoke to Tobias about her past and Severus’ expected future. He was livid and repulsed, as sobriety made him turn to god much more than it had been before, he hated magic and saw Eileen as something demonic, yet neither could let the other go. Severus was very neglected by both parents. Eileen once saw Severus as a second chance, an opportunity to change Tobias and her lives and relationship back to what it once was, innocent puppy love. But after her conversation with Tobias, and his reaction, she saw Severus as nothing but a reminder of her mistakes and a representation of what ruined her life in the first place. Her love of a muggle. She just hoped her faint presence and protection from Tobias was enough. Tobias saw him as nothing but a burden and would make it very clear. Often beating him to release anger, either it be directed at him or not. Though Eileen defended him, it wasn't always enough.
Severus misinterpreted Eileen's venting and nostalgia as promises and safety. What she told him of everything, the school, the creatures, the classes, the clothing, the food, and friendship; She said it in such a way that he thought it was bound to happen for him. He stole her old books that she was never able to give up, and often stole his fathers empty bottles as vials. He was often beaten when he was caught, getting reminded of the holy god his father praised and worshipped, but he was able to keep the books hidden. His father was very infamous in their neighborhood, so he also had a negative reputation. the beaten boy, the poor boy, the strange child who spoke of a magical world (he was beaten once this name reached his fathers ears) but he ignored them.
His tops where his mothers hand me downs and he wore jeans that his mom had fitted to him when he was younger, though slowly grew out of. He was never properly taught many things. Proper eating, proper writing, proper speaking, he had picked everything up from trial and error, books, and beatings. He never understood what love was, was love the feeling he felt when he reread his favorite book, or was it the tears he shed quietly beside his mother so as to not wake her up from her much needed sleep. It wasn't until he met Lily-- that beautiful red headed girl that he knew was just like him, a wizard, That held his hand with softness he's never experienced, gave him bites of food he's only dreamed of having, and gave him a place to stay on particularly bad days, that he knew what love was.
