Professor, is it the energy from the space time rift that causes alpha Pokémon? Because I thought they were just…naturally occurring, just happening to be bigger and more aggressive than others of their species

From what we can gather from texts and stories told from the Hisui region, the energy enrages the pokemon, but the original size and power of the pokemon doesn't change. They were notoriously territorial from what we've read, but only to things they didn't recognise so much. The energy from rifts was said to enrage them so much they even attacked those they swore to protect. They're seemingly not much different form Totem pokemon, but the totems have a diminished amount of that energy. Alpha pokemon still occur all over the place, not just in Alola or Sinnoh, just without the energy from space time rifts, as they've been closed for a long while according to records. Or at least, closed mostly. The odd event seems to turn up but it is nothing like it use to be.
