Wither AU: What do we do now?
When Sausage was revived, he was thoroughly freaked out by his corrupted hand and arm. He vaguely remembered fighting against it, but that it had been too much, that he couldn’t stop it – and this was the result.
It wasn’t the crimson red of the Nether. In fact, it didn’t even really look red anymore. Maybe the pale gray skin did have a red hue, if the light hit it right, but it wasn’t red, the darkest spot being where he used to stick the corruption on the palm of his hand. And it felt funny. Like he was wearing multiple gloves over his hand, rubbery and inmaneuverable – almost like it was not his own. He’d close his hand and found he could barely make a fist, nor did it have any strength, as if it left damage to his muscles.
It was such a weird feeling – so unreal. Almost as unreal as the fact that this was Master Xornoth’s doing.
He’d expected punishment. You don’t just go against Mas- against Xornoth without feeling the repercussions. But this fast, this viciously… it had been a while since they’d been ‘properly’ punished, maybe he’d just forgotten what it felt like. Still, this felt different. Like bridges were being burned. Like he and Gem were discarded and they were hit with the worst because he’d stopped caring.
And now Sausage lay in a bed, on his side, and he stared at the grey-ish skin of his hand and the dark spot on its palm. He wasn’t sure if it would ever go away. He wasn’t sure how to feel about this. How to move on.
What do we do now?
He’d asked Gem, who sat beside him, exhausted. What were they gonna do now? It was so strange; he wanted to kill and destroy, but then he didn’t because these people housed and helped him. They’d already come in and looked at his arm, wary around him, trying to help. He wanted to go back to the Nether, but then he didn’t because that’s all corrupted stuff. He’d never look at that crimson the same again.
Gem didn’t have an answer either. And she pushed it to the future, declaring it a problem for their future selves to deal with once they were back to full health. Once these rulers showed their true faces and Gem and Sausage could react appropriately. Because, even though Gem was used to this, she had no idea what to do, either.
And she yawned, and he could feel the exhaustion weigh on both of them.
And Sausage scooted over, to the wall behind him. As far as he could tell, there was enough space for two people in a bed. It’d be tight, but Sausage was unaware of bed sizes and it seemed these people measured the sizes of their beds just right, with little wiggle room.
And Gem - too glad to have him back and correct him about bed sizes - lay down beside him, already telling him good sleep. Even before Sausage had pulled the bedsheets over her, she slept. He lay down, stared her – peaceful for probably the first time in days – and wondered how long it would take him to fall asleep in this strange piece of furniture.
As soon as he closed his eyes, he too drifted away.
