Nightmare~
It was the shriek that woke her up. Quickly speeding down the hallway, bare feet wobbling against the carpet, the smaller woman nearly stumbled into her doorframe.
Anxiously, she crept into the darkness, reaching for the bed where her friend sat up, pink curls strewn across her shoulders like rose petals; orange eyes a dulled bronze in the light. The moonlight held a wash over the walls, and was all the brightness the angel needed to see to know something was gravely wrong.
"Elysia — are you alright, are you okay?" The words had barely escaped the Chosen’s lips when the taller woman clung to her white underdress, fingers quaking as they burrowed into it’s travel-worn folds.
"Colette I — " The other began, eyes bright with tears as she tried to smile, but it was too cracked in far too many places.
Wordlessly, the touch was all the other woman needed to gently pull her into her arms, one hand going to the back of her head.
"Just take a minute to breathe, Elysia. You’re safe — it’s alright. Don’t keep it inside, okay?"
Slowly but surely a few sobs began to escape, quiet, muffled into her dress as the smaller woman rocked her back and forth, as if comforting a child.
Slowly, but softly, she began to sing, a soft little murmur in the dark.
"Sing a song unto the world, rising high the clouds unfurl..gazing at the twilight sky, broken by a newborn’s cry.."
Elysia’s sobs continued, growing more and more heartbreaking as the blonde continued to rock her.
"Changes from the smallest things….Gazing down an angel’s wings…"
Eventually the sobbing quieted, and slowly but surely the woman had fallen asleep, forehead brushed against her shoulder. Still, Colette continued to softly sing, until she could feel her heartbeat slow.
"Fall down, fall down, falls the rain, I know my life won’t be plain..Fan the flames into the past, here, now, our lives will last…we’ll never know the times of pain.."
I know your life won’t be plain..
