Like most Earth animals, the feral Gems that have fur or manes get fluffier in cold season!
It's about time I made some more headcanons for this little au. And what better way than to pay homage to cold season than with fluffy, shaggy feral gems?
Obviously, we know Gems are unaffected by weather and temperatures. So why do they do this?
For Lil' Quartz, of course!
This trend started with Fluffy! (Obviously :P) She took notice of this when she noticed some woodland critters get thicker pelts and some human natives would dress heavier when it got cold out. Initially, she didn't think anything of it, just an earthling thing, but after Lil Quartz came along, she realized Earthlings aren't resistant to cold.
Soon, she started to grow out her fur for him to burrow into and snuggle in until it got warmer out. She also found it was a lot more cozy with the extra layer of warmth.
This trend spread to her packmates, becoming a tradition for cold season.
Tri-T mostly did this because she thought it looked cool, but whenever she was tasked to watch younger Lil Quartz, she'd feel a bit insufficient since she wasn't big like Centi or had arms like Fluffy Quartz.
Centi would have him ride in her mane, either to have him "help" with patrol or to just keep him close while Fluffy and Tri-T hunted.
Of course Fluffy was his favorite to snuggle, since she was always so warm and with many arms to hug with.
But, once Lil Quartz got winter clothing, they started wearing some as well, just so he wouldn't feel out of place with them.
