Raccoon help needed!
Hi!
My mother has been feeding a family of raccoons recently and they are getting way too dependent and comfortable around people, I keep trying to convince her to stop but sadly it's been to no avail. Do you have any advice or information I could share with her as to why it's a bad idea?

A fed raccoon is a dead raccoon. Raccoons that are highly habituated to humans are at a higher risk of getting hit by cars, developing terminal diabetes/kidney failure/cancer, and getting killed by other humans who hate raccoons or call the health department in fear that they are rabid. I like to make it clear to people who feed raccoons that I can feel their love for the animal. And then I introduce them to better ways to love the animals, such as planting native fruits, veggies, and nuts. And providing a safe place for them to engage in natural activities where they won't be hurt by others.
Do raccoons not want to be pet because they don't have inherent social grooming practices (similar to cats), or is it because they don't recognize humans as being within that social framework, or because (and I'm assuming it's this one) of some other thing or combination of things that I'm failing to think of?
Wild raccoons don’t want to be pet because they literally don’t know you and that’s weird for a stranger to want to touch them. If they are approaching people, it is only because they want food. And then when that expectation is subverted, they get angry.
My raccoons like to be pet though.
Question: Why do people get bit by seemingly friendly raccoons? Answer: Here is food → oooh thank you now I beg→ ooh cute have more food → thank you now i will beg more → ooh so cute I will pet you → I am literally going to fucking kill you for reaching out with a food free hand. You are a disgrace. Dont fucking do that to me. I hate you I hate you I am going to go dig in the trash where I know there is food.
am i allowed to make quill be able to chitter , purr , meow , and bark .... is that too op ? akin to making an alicorn ponysona ?

Pre Dashcon 2, I had several people ask if I was going to go to the Toronto Zoo and, if so, could I review the raccoon enclosure.
So here yall are!
TLDR:
The enclosure itself is very nice
The raccoon seems quite unhappy due to lack of social interaction
The educational signage is lacking (wrong map, weirdly specific fact that isn’t all that true)
