Viktoria x Reader Drabble bc I had another irritating and somewhat uncomfortable conversation w the fam so I need to get my bearings before I lose my shit on them later on. if u wanna read this, go ahead. It’s literally just to blow off steam for my own mental health. Stay safe out there folks
it was just about fully nighttime when you were having another irritating conversation with your folks. And to you, conversation was putting it lightly…it was an argument. Plain and simple. No yelling, just everyone irritated at each other for speaking their mind. The mind that you had told them several times to stop talking about…the one that you were treated like a child when you said you didn’t want to talk about it even when they brought it up more often than usual. That mind they had always pushed no matter how many times they reassured you that they didn’t shove it down your throat. That they were just trying to “guide you in the right direction”…yeah. That mind. You grit your teeth, taking a deep breath as you said you were going to take your leave, as calmly as you could muster. But the moment you reached the city limits, the moment the trees were nearly swallowing your vision in a deep green hue, you screamed in pure frustration. You cursed at the skies, feeling your body yearn to make your own teeth gnash at flesh as rage burnt through your skin. That was when she heard you. Viktoria…hopefully you didn’t summon her by your angered curses…the way you called for vengeance…the way you wanted to yell the things you had been holding back during that damned conversation with your family…how they always asked why you never truly talked to them…to just shout “I wonder why” back at them. you wished she didn’t have to see you this angry. You hated the fact she never saw you as someone different. That it was just something you needed to do before you got to a certain level of volatility.
“Dear…what’s wrong…?” Viktoria asked calmly, keeping a small bit of distance between you and her, not only for her own safety, but for yours. She knew how bad your anger would get sometimes. It pained her to see you that upset again.
“What do you think…” you shot back harshly, but quickly regretting your quick response… “ah hells…” you lamented, realizing your mistake. By the way your head was thinking, you were already spiraling. It was difficult to stop…especially when you were irritated. Because now you were irritated with yourself. “Damnit…why couldn’t I just have said that better…I’m sorry Vikki…” you sighed, frustrated, sitting down on a tree stump with your head in your hands.
“Dear, look at me.” Viktoria drew closer, not at all offended by your biting words, but still upset that it had happened. She knew you didn’t mean it. You had directly apologized too. But the tone still stuck with her. How a mortal could be so…venomous, even unintentionally. She cupped your face in her hands, kneeling down to your level.
“You need to breathe. I know it’s the last thing you want to hear from me right now, but you need to let that anger fade…just enough to keep yourself from making a decision you may regret. Ok? Can you do that? Breathe…just focus on me.”
Viktoria took a deep breath, urging you to follow her. You took a breath, trying your best to keep your thoughts calm. Your hands shook with rage, even through your breathing.
“Just keep breathing, ok…? Im right here when you’re ready to talk…” Viktoria held you closer to her body, feeling your heart race, but steadily going back to normal the more you breathed deeply.
Moments passed. It was silent, save for the few chirps of crickets, rustles of leaves, and chortles of burricks. You were as calm as one could get when frustrated. You were ready to talk.
“My folks brought up that damned speech about their relationship with the Builder and how I should be able to talk about it with them. I’ve told them several times I don’t believe in the Builder…it doesn’t matter if they want me to be “interested”. I do the best I can to make them feel like I’m participating…which is listen to their sermons and attend that damned cathedral service no matter how much I hate it. I literally told them that they never speak their mind about being uncomfortable, and if they did I would respect that and stop talking about it…so why can’t I get that same respect from them? It’s like they only care to treat me like an adult when it benefits them…”
“Oh, sweetheart I’m so sorry…” Viktoria gently ran her hands over your back affectionately, trying to soothe whatever anger was left. “Manfools…they don’t know a lick of real respect even if it burnt their own skin.” Viktoria hissed, displeased by their own actions.
“What’s worse is that I know they’re doing it as a last ditch effort to bring me back to how I was as a kid…impressionable…blindly following instead of challenging what something says…before I go off to my own apartment in the city…” you sighed, leaning against viktoria, her gentle touch soothing your burning frustration.
“I wondered if that was it…I’ve seen it before with people like you. Just leaving the nest they grew up in, and their family not being able to get past their wretched egos…” viktoria stopped a moment, leaning back to look at you again.
“But you know what? They won’t ever have to treat you like that again. Because you have me by your side. And the earth keeps its promise. It always does. I won’t let anyone tell you that you don’t deserve the respect that you have earned…not after how much you’ve done for them. Now come…you deserve rest. I’ll have Dyan prepare you a room for the night.” As viktoria got up, you began to object, but soon realized just how exhausted you were from being so upset, letting viktoria take you by the hand and bring you to one of the pagan outposts.
