revising the thillana i did for my arangetram after nearly 2.5 years and i am honestly so shocked at how i was able to do this. it’s so fast and the beats are not clear at all and i’m struggling rn to learn it but apparently 16 year old me was just cruising through 💀

Beautiful Thillana in Desh. How the pataka hasta (flat open hand)  is used in the beginning is refreshing considering that, from what I’ve seen, it isn’t used very often in pure dance sequences (except for a sarikal or mei adavu). Interesting rhythms here as well! The Nattuvanar seems to be enjoying himself quite a lot near the end of the video.

I make a lot of mistakes here mostly because I was tired from doing jathi before this, not being warmed up properly, and choosing to do this on the spot. I still think I did okay though. 

Lemme take a moment to further criticize myself lol. I am SO out of shape oh my gosh. My endurance is not what it used to be. My thighs aren’t what they used to be either. My araimandi isn’t as deep as it was and I feel like it’s too wide. I notice in this video that I also have a tendency to “purse” my lips unconsciously. I also hate that i forgot some of the choreography because I just learnt this piece, it should all be right up in the front part of my brain lol. Oh, this was also shot in front of Fort Charlotte, the largest fort on the island.
