The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) Singapore (Creativity)
I was inspired by some of the delegates in our Senior MUN CCA and this further lead on to my curiosity and hunger for experience and knowledge on a regional scale. Joining THIMUN Singapore was undeniably one of my greatest decisions as of the start of this first academic year. I could not believe how I went from being clueless about how a United Nations conference would run like to joining one of the most recognized and distinguished Model United Nations conference in the world.
Standing as the delegate of Uruguay for General Assembly 4 (GA 4): Special Politics gave me a sense of pride and joy. One of the topics discussed in the GA was the International Cooperation for the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and this was the reason why I decided to join this GA in specific. I am interested in Physics related knowledge and Outer Space is one of the most salient technological discovery and advancements that relates widely to Physics.
During the four-day long debate, I was able to meet delegates from all over Asia including but not limited to: Taipei, India, Philippines and Malaysia. We shared our resolutions during lobbying after finding delegates with similar stances on the topic at hand. After the lobbying time has elapsed and the resolutions have been approved by the approval panel, debating time began.
It was unimaginable how many amendments were sent for each resolution totalling to a figure of more than 100 amendments with intents to either strike out, modify or add clauses to the resolution. To sum up the debating experience, I was able to observe and take part in several Point of Information to the speakers. There were delegates there that had previously taken part in more than 20 conferences in the past but there were also those that were joining a conference this big for the first time, including myself.
I firmly believe that joining this conference allowed me to open my eyes for a wider understanding of how smooth a United Nations conference can run and that there are many people that are so creative and share opinions that are similar to mine. I am truly inspired to aim for continuous self-improvement and growth because of this conference and I would like to emphasize the importance of coming out of our comfort zone. Lastly, I would like to add on that I have as well built quite a few friendships that would hopefully last lifelong.

I NEED YOU
Hello! Could you do me a small favour and watch this short documentary of mine that got nominated for Best Cinematography in the THIMUN Film Festival. A lot of time was spent in the creation of the film so I would really like it to have a lot of recognition. Give it a like if you’re also feeling generous.
Let's help each other out!

welcome february, aka second term
People told me second term is the BEST! and is it? I’ve yet to experience it. All i know is that I’m really anticipating February Break (also known as CARNIVAL BREAK!) well, sadly I won’t be celebrating carnival in Maastricht but whatever hahah. I will someday :p
COOL so how has it been so far :p IPC WAS AMAZING :D AMAZING WORKSHOPS! I DANCED AND YEA! A ROUND OF APPLAUSE TO MY DEAREST ORGANIZING TEAM!
THEN CAME THIMUN :D my host was... (hahaha pretty nice). Anyways it felt incredible to be at a CITY. (Please note that my definition of CITY is not the literal one) ANYWAYS! Den Haag was love at first sight <3 back to the world of trams and buses (and how can I forget, CHINATOWN, which was sadly only a street.) My first conference, a lot of fun and a ton of insights!
I feel like I haven’t been updating recently so yea! here’s some small updates <3
MELODY
The Hague International Model United Nations Conference
16 - 20 NOVEMBER 2015 - YEAR 13 TERM 1
THIMUN Singapore was a really great conference. Although I didn’t chair, it was still the most challenging one I’ve been to and it had the highest caliber of debate I’ve ever experienced.
This made it interesting to be a part of, as the standard had suddenly been raised, and it does take some adjustment to go from Russia in our MUN activity of 40 people to the Central African Republic in a group of 130. It was very competitive, so everyone had to fight to be heard - it wasn’t easy. It was especially difficult to represent the CAR, because it is a relatively small country and a lot of people weren’t remotely interested in what I had to say - not in the bad way, just diplomatically speaking. Most people had never even heard of the CAR before (myself included).
I found out that the best way to go was to relate to fellow LEDC countries - poorer countries - and sort of ally myself with them, like Lesotho. I helped to write a resolution on the issue of financial services for human development, and I contributed with a few clauses. I got up and made a speech, and I was unusually nervous. Speaking at our school MUN, and even at THAIMUN and BGIC, didn’t prepare me for this. I just wasn’t used to it.
I was really nervous but I tried to keep calm and give the speech. It went well, I think, and I received a ton of notes afterwards from people telling me I’d won them over, which was flattering - but when it came to the questions I really had to think on my feet. I was being quizzed on the ins and outs of corporate economics (not my strong point) and it was new to have to try and talk myself out of them. It was a useful skill to develop, I think, and all around the conference was very rewarding.
Merci a tous qui sont venus au premier MunClub. c’était sympa de vous voir, et on espère que vous viendront aux prochains meetings.
à vendredi!
