SPOILERS! ⚠️ For Dragonslayer 6
Now as much as I was very happy to see Serius all pathetic and sobbing, it made me ponder on how Cairo and Serius are similar in some form.
Serius, from what I could gather, became the fifth champion because he wanted to make his father proud. It was his first motivation to even agree to do this. Serius constantly wants to keep up this "perfect knight" mask in front of others, not show any weakness and always seem like he has everything under control, all of that to conceal the fact that deep down all he sought out was to make his father notice him. To not have his back turned towards Serius any longer.
He cares deeply about what other's depictions of himself is, and always wishes it is the best of depictions instead of ugly ones. Probably one of that facts he had gotten so pissed over the Inn Lady not paying much attention to his status or "burn healing" techniques, and instead treating him like a normal customer or just another arrogant knight. Because his life was built on recognition and image, so having someone simply not gaf about it was...strange to him. Almost irritating.
It's a hunch to say he got cast out of his clan, but if he did he, once again, is doing all of this to gain the respect of his clan back. To gain the respect of his FATHER back.
Which is contrary to Cairo. To me, at least, Cairo seems to not be too bothered on others opinions on him. For a man who's lived his entire life being told he meant nothing all because of his status, getting this kind of reaction just doesn't phase him anymore. So he simply doesn't care about his own image.
Cairo probably doesn't even care about his father! He once was, tho, but after seeing that worrying about that would get him nowhere he simply gave up thinking about it. Doesn't mean he's forgotten his origin, in fact I'd say he's just simply curious to meet his father, to hear him say to his face that he was a mistake and confirm his concerns from long ago. But at this point...it wouldn't matter to him any longer.
The only thing that bothers him is having himself be depicted as something he knows for a fact isn't true. Like him getting mad at being called a liar by Serius on EP.4, or being called a "pet" in general.
I think this complements the pair very nicely! And it's nice character build up :3
