Freya kissed Hati, ‘More wine, love?’ Jakten was out playing with his friends and was planning to stay with one of them for the night. She was curled up in Hati’s arms on the floor of their den. He was playing with her auburn hair, whispering softly into her ear. Detangling herself from him, she stood fixing her black silk neglagé. Her green eyes roamed over Hati’s half naked form. ‘Hm, I am a bad mother but I must admit I do love when Jak is out.’ She wandered into the kitchen slowly, letting Hati get a nice view of her curves. She grabbed a bottle of red wine and two glasses. Returning to Hati she giggled, tumbling back into his arms. ‘What now, love?’ she asked, running her fingers over the contures in his chest.
He had just wrapped his arms around her when there was a knock at the door. She sighed and rolled off the wolf. ‘I’ll be right back. I’ll get rid of them soon enough, don’t worry.’ She tottled over to the door, the back door. No one used the back door except…but he was gone. She had to remind herself of that everyday since he was murdered. Everytime she rolled over in bed and realised Sköll wasn’t snoring beside her. For the past eight years she had seen him everywhere she went. It didn’t mean that she didn’t love Hati. Of course she did, but Sköll was the one! He always knew how to make her happy and angry and every other emotion between. He was her perfect match, they completed each other. Every night she prayed to him. Though he was probably happy with his real wife and son. The thought made her heart ache. Fighting back her feelings, she opened the door and almost choked.
There he was, as real as anything. She couldn’t move, she could hardly breathe. Her heart thumped in her chest as he took a step forward. His brown eyes found her emerald ones before he pulled her into a hug. Tears formed in her eyes, ‘You died. I saw your bones. My father murdered you.’ Sköll stroked her hair mumbling apologies and reassurance in her ear. He lifted her chin, pulling her face up to kiss him. She gripped his shoulders as he began to return his kiss. Those lips were so fimilar, they were home to her. She missed them, she missed him. He fitted perfectly against her, knowing exactly how her lips moved. She was home. ‘Who is it?’ Hati called, breaking the moment. Freya’s heart dropped at the thought of what was about to come. ‘Why’s Hati here, baby?’ Sköll asked, looking up just in time to see Hati pad into the kitchen only in his boxers.
Sköll growled his skin rippling as his eyes locked on his brother. He pushed Freya aside, ‘You sick son of a bitch. Is this what you were waiting for? Me to get out of the way so you could fuck my wife?’ ‘We thought you were dead,’ Hati replied, ‘We didn’t kn-‘ ‘How long did it take you to get in her pants?’ he shouted. ‘Sköll!’ Freya screeched, ‘Please stop. P-Please!’ He turned to her, brown eyes ablaze. ‘Do you love him?’ he spat. She nodded. ‘Huh, I know where I’m not wanted,’ the eldest wolf said. ‘I love you,’ she breathed. Her heart ached in her chest as she stood between two of the most important men in her life.
‘I imagined everyday what it’d be like if you ever came back. And everyday it got less and less likely. Eight years I thought you were dead. I guess it was better than thinking you just skipped out on us. Jakten asked me everyday about you. You’re his hero. And I didn’t just jump into bed with Hati! He was the only person who knew what I was going through. He was there for me…for us. He taught Jak all his wolf stuff.’ She ran her fingers through her hair. ‘If you need to fight, go into the forest please. I think I should collect Jakten. He should meet his father.’
She ran upstairs, sitting on her bed. What now? Sköll or Hati? They we were polar opposites and they… She looked at the pictures on the wall across from her. There was her, Sköll and new born Jakten. Everyone was so happy, grinning up at the camera, curled up on the bed. The one beside of it was of a year ago, Hati, her and Jak were out in the forest. Jak was on Hati’s shoulders while Freya was pulled into his chest.
‘I love you,’ she breathed.
