Edel Rodriguez
Prologue: 1939 AD, Berlin
You could cut the cigarette smoke with a knife. Puffs slipping between privilege white teeth, liquored lips, swirling into hypnotic clouds that collected and rose towards the gold encrusted light fixtures. Through the crowd, Klaus surveyed the dimly lit room as their host directed both he and his companion to their table. Seated amongst other officers, government officials, their wives, lovers and girlfriends a like, the woman heâd brought couldnât have been more delighted. A mindless, vapid, social climber, she was all too happy to latch onto him and follow any instruction he gave her. Banal as she were, she would serve her purpose. She was just another decoy of distraction to help him wedge his way into the vast social group that was âThe Partyâ.
I have read Things Fall Apart for my Black History Month ,that is literally 3 years after my first time reading it as a english beginner .It was a lovely experience where I cam to uncover so many points I've missed before and read the story from a different angle. Things Fall Apart is the life story of the Igbo people before and after the christian missionaries arrival ,it is the defense of identity and cultural beliefs but it can also be a story of compassion and appreciation to the other . Chinua Achebe in other words made it clear that regardless of what we believe is true , we have always to be tolerant to the other's believe regardless of how distinct it could be to from our own . This novel would be the best sample to be tought in order to value cultural differences between nations . The Igbo people with all their costumes and religious feasts made me sink in their lifestyle and understand why some characters would behave in certain ways than others. I truely would never get bored from reading Things Fall Apaprt and I've only grew to appraise and spot other sub-themes in the story , such of the feared femininity in the men of Umofia and other tribes and what toxic masculinity could lead to . Okonkwo has always behold a complixity from his father's gentelness whoile on the cotrarary estimated his daughter- Ezinma -'s attitude and awareness but still have always wished she was a boy ! #thingsfallapart #chinuaachebe #africanliterature #blackhistorymonth #vsco #canvas #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/B-K1RDSniRU/?igshid=1x142c2g3nr5a

VIA @QUESTLOVE 15 years ago today #ElectricCircus scared most of yâall. Both @TheRoots & @Common were in this tandem package of underground hip hop cats allowed to play in reindeer games. Our previous offerings #ThingsFallApart (us) & #LikeWaterForChocolate (him) opened doors weâd NEVER thought would let us in. Itâs almost crazy that we both decided to make departure albums at the same time too. The question was who was gonna âout crazyâ the other. From how I saw it if we had made #ThingsFallApartSomeMo in 2002 there would have been no surprises and by then âthat soundâ (neo soul/whatever you call it) was to me played out. Not to mention you hear how Slllooowwww thhhiiinnnggss sooound on #TheRootsComeAlive? I wanted energetic material that made our live show EXCITING hence the rebellious angle #Phrenology took. These albums are practically identical twins. #JefLeeJohnson spent 40 mins on #JimiWasARockStar in studio B, then 10 mins later we running his axes to Studio A to give The Roots the same magic on our 11 min #Water. I believe the first song we made for this album @VikterDuplaix liked so much he convinced Rash (Common) to let him have it and Rash can do a verse if he likes (đ±đ±đ±đ±đ±) man I was mad Rash agreed. That song was my baby. The next night I think we had the skeleton of #HeavenSomewhere done & seconds later came #BetweenYouAndMeAndLiberation because @JamesPoyser didnât have a full kit set up in his studio I remember making a âsnareâ drum out of a stack of cymbals on a chair (I was too lazy tonget mine from the hallway and I didnât think rash would take something so radical sounding. turns out he did. I have limited space here so Iâll briefly share my fav story: The week we spent at @officialpaisleypark. @Prince (on tour) he was now in big brother mode & less âour idolâ he gave us run of the studio & let us use whatever we wanted. (we as in Dilla/Pino/Poyser/Me) weâd send him parts to play (#Star69 is Dilla James & Prince on Keys me on drum programming Pino on bass) most important he let us play w his covered up Oberheim synths & the Linn Drum (see the interlude AFTER 69) so magical man. So much magic
