Tell me about your company/org.  

THINK Together is a non-profit extended learning program that provides quality after school assistance, while at the same time offering enrichment and physical activity opportunities for students.

What role does your company/org play in society?

THINK Together was established in response to a plea to provide a safe place to complete homework for children living in gang-ridden neighborhoods. Since then, the organization has flourished and now reaches more than 100,000 youth at over 400 locations in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernadino, and San Diego Counties.  

How does your company/org’s vision align with public health?

My organization provides assistance to children with a holistic approach, giving careful consideration to education as the single most important factor in helping young individuals reach their full potential. THINK not only focuses on academia, but also other facets which constitute education, including character development, mediation, and healthy living.

Why is public health everyone’s issue?

Public health has become an emerging trend that empowers individuals to lead healthier lives through lifestyle change that aligns with idea of prevention over treatment. Thanks to the efforts of public health, people today have better access to the tools necessary to make more conscious decisions affecting their health outcomes. Without this virtuous discipline, we would simply live our lives taking action only after disease or illness has onset.

What opportunities are there to get involved with your company/org?

There are a variety of ways for individuals to get involved with THINK Together ranging from site coordinator, whom are individuals who have complete oversight of a campus, to volunteers and interns, whose efforts contribute to the quality assistance afforded to our youth. These opportunities are wonderful for individuals interested in pursuing careers in health education, counseling, and clinical child psychology.

What do you like best about your company/org? What keeps you there?

What I enjoy most about THINK Together is its focus on character finesse. Unlike many other extended learning programs, THINK doesn’t merely strive to provide academic assistance, but also seeks to teach interpersonal skills and lifelong learning so that our students leave equipped to build relationships and think critically about the world around them.
