I'm not particularly a Hambone girly but I do have a headcanon that his scars are absolutely plastered with kisses when he gets back home bc why not I mean look at him
Ok but I felt this.
I don’t care! We could have ourselves a distant and arranged marriage or some awful shit, maybe daddy married me off to him for his five acres of corn in fuckville Kansas, I don’t care about what it was like before he went away (who’s to say it wasn’t alright,)
—But this man got his face tore off and parachuted into enemy territory with part of his plane strapped to his back and spent weeks in a German hospital and over a year in a POW camp and you bet your ass when this gnarly sweetheart gets home I’m gonna pepper him and his scars with so many kisses he’s gonna get ticklish and start giggling like a little girl on the train platform and Murph is gonna think someone possessed his friend and then it’ll be happily ever after for us.
Okay so. Bucky has his “drunk dial” equivalent to ACORN with his first letter to her. But do any of the guys get a similarly whacky letter from their ladies? I’m just imagining you’re up late, you’re wasted, you’re missing your man, and hey, maybe you’re normally a little quiet but a war’s on and fuck it? Sends your unsuspecting lover a rambling, semi-raunchy letter. Wakes up hungover and mortified. Prays it gets lost forever. It doesn’t. I can imagine the boys having wildly different reactions (though all are very appreciative) but that letter is getting read so many times by the time they’re back stateside it is so worn down it’s about to disintegrate😘
THIS IS SUCH A GOOD THOUGHT!!
Oh I’m gonna have to give this its due consideration. First off, thanks to Steph @steph-speaks and I’s fevered brains, I now have a headcanon that Hambone and his wifey weren’t super close or romantic when he left, having married for practical reasons. So the letters are the catalyst for them learning and loving each other across the miles. But if there were many things you didn’t know about Howard Hamilton, ya sure as hell knew what the man felt like inside you -and after hearing Margaret Blakely and Jean Crosby titter about their well spent leaves with their stateside men, perhaps Hambone gets a letter that warms him up better than any soup.
She repents it mightily next morning but it’s sent and gone. When he comes back, you best be sure he’s not forgotten it a bit. Executes in vivid detail and with great improvisation, certain passages from it.
Secondly, I like to think John Brady has a good and sensible and modest gal waiting for him but -she’s been waiting a long time and the memory of him is just as sharp and tantalizing as ever, and so maybe she writes a little too rapturously one late evening at her desk about marrying him and having permission and such. It’s very vague but it’s very full of longing and his cheeks are on fire by the end of it.
I've been lurking on here absorbing all your MOTA content but that Hambone though. Good lord, I would be on my knees for that gold toothed man. I would write him everyday.
He’s wheedled his way into my heart outta left field, Rosa my love, and let me tell you I HAVE FEELINGS about him now. So many feelings. -also, he’d love ya on your knees. 🌚
I’m at least planning on a Wives Sleepover fic between Mrs. Hambone, Mrs. Croz and Mrs. Blakely where the teacups start getting filled with bubbles and more comes out in their missing of their men than they ever meant to. Maybe they write ‘em a few mortifyingly blunt letters that they regret but can’t get back come morning, hehe.
Why did I just realize that the guy who gets covered in Crosby’s vomit in ep 1 is Hambone? Somehow that makes is hilarious instead of disgusting to me :D
The little things you notice on rewatch because now you can tell them apart.
Right? Isn’t that hysterical? And his funny goading about his stomach being as empty as the fuel tanks. His little “Hehe” at his own joke. And the very upset coworker vibe of “Goddamnit Croz!!” when they’re making a sharp bank away from FRANCE -rub it in why don’t ya hambone. Anyways, love that you came here to yell that, I’ve been thinking about it, too. So many things you don’t catch the first time round.
Also -third watch before I realized 👆🏻 this was him, legit only put it together because Brady’s plane + his bombardier is Hamilton…anyways,
