just watched superman and have so much to talk about omg. so incredibly refreshing to see a mainstream comic movie be unapologetically pro-palestine and pro-immigrant, especially after all the shit Marvel has pulled. i’ve been a DC comics girl for years while hating 90% of the movies, and this was just so rewarding. To see superman be displayed unabashedly as an immigrant, with them portraying the fear-mongering used against immigrants with his character and how people quickly turn against minorities. the display of Lex Luthor, a white billionaire, as having an irrationally violent hatred of immigrants in the form of superman. In particular, the scene where he shouts “you destroy us” to Superman is so reminiscent of the way hate groups/politicians speak about immigrants and act like they’re the downfall of society. throughout the movie, it's made so clear to us that superman is just as human as any of us; he gets hurt, he needs help, he forms connections, and he tells luthor this directly. his character humanises immigrants in a world that wants to claim they’re “alien”.

the pro-palestinian message wasn’t subtle in this. the movie was in-your-face political, in a very important way. it displayed the president of boravia, very clearly symbolising Israel, as disgusting and genocidal. the movie never once tried to display him or his army as sympathetic.

i could ramble about this movie forever.
