‘Think like an Artist
... and lead a more Creative, productive life’
Boom!
That wasn’t the first feeling that came to me when I was given this book and read the title. I was a little concerned that it might paint the artist in a slightly flakey way that I wasn’t sure I wanted to be reminded of or associated with - when you spend a great deal of your time defending yourself as a serious creative person, the last thing you need is someone undoing all your hard work.
Well, let me tell you. I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! THAT IS WHY I AM SHOUTING THIS.
A dear and wonderful friend of mine who has been championing my artistic efforts since the moment we met, also the same person that 6 years later, is still championing my work and bought me this book. I have had so much support from friends and family over the years they’ve all been amazing and I love them dearly.

There’s this perfect comment from the Guardian on the back of the book ‘Will Gompertz is the best teacher you never had’.
Not to down play anyone who has studied art but in 205 pages of inspiring writing, I feel that I’ve gained a honorary art degree. I’m getting excited as I write this as this is the emotion that this book stirs in me, joy, exuberance, confidence, strength, power - the ingredients for conviction, conviction in one’s self that you are what you believe.
With each page, I either learnt something wonderful and new, or felt inspired and confirmed. I really can’t put it any other way.
There are many ways in which we can choose to live our lives, but I have always believed that the way that I chose to think was something worth noting, it was a positive thing, a worthwhile thing and then I read this book and suddenly not only did it confirm this feeling but then beautifully illustrated the many other artists that think this way and that how we can all be/think like an artist and harness the unique, practical, focused way in which artists approach life.
Tenacious
Driven
Ambitious
Curious
Creative
Come on, what’s not to love?
Art isn’t just for painters or crafters, being creative is for everyone, from farmers to scientists.
Being artistic and creative is something worth being proud of not something one feels they need to justify.
This book has fuelled me and filled me with even more confidence (oh oh! ;-) )
If there was ever a book that everyone should read after a long period without change, it’s this one.
Refresh your mind, do something different and think like an artist.
xx
