Wat Pho (The Temple Of The Reclining Buddha) . While it looks magical and golden at night, Wat Pho is just as magnificent during the day. As a first timer in Bangkok, we had to see the home to more than a thousand Buddha images. It is one of the largest temple complexes in Bangkok and considered the birthplace of authentic Thai massage. According to last night's tour guide, anyone in Thailand who claims to offer 'authentic' Thai massage should be able to present a certificate from the Wat Pho school of massage. 😱 So what of last night's massage??? Wat Phra Si Sanphet (Temple of the Holy, Splendid Omniscient) . A few minutes away from Wat Maha That lay the ruins of the holiest, grandest and most beautiful temple in Thailand's ancient capital of Ayutthaya before its destruction in 1767 by the Burmese. Only the three Chedis survived while the temple compounds were completely destroyed. (Source: Wikipedia) . The Wat Maha That (The Monastery of the Great Relic) . Located in the center of old Ayutthaya, the structure has been registered as a national historic site in 1935 and is part of the Ayutthaya World Heritage Historical Park. Wat Maha That follows the Khmer concept of temple construction. Its design, architecture and decoration were modeled according to a series of magical and religious beliefs. (Source: http://www.ayutthaya-history.com) . This Buddha head is the most photographed in the area. Nobody knows how the Buddha head became entwined in the roots of the tree. This is a sacred site. The statue can not be touched. Bang Pa-In Royal Palace . Day 2 was the day we tour Ayutthaya. We were picked up by the van early. We didn't get breakfast until we reached our FIRST STOP. . Also known as the Summer Palace, the complex was formerly used by Thai kings. The palace has vast gardens, landscaping and beautiful architecture dating back to the 19th century.
