Started watching Breaking Bad yesterday evening and it’s unbelievable. Cinematography wise it’s okay but the story itself is so powerfully written that it’s enough, really, to have a whole series be carried by their characters, or character. I live to see Walter White’s gradual transformation into a kingpin. He doesn’t seem to be a bad person, in earnest; just someone responding to contingencies and necessities and willing to blur the line between law and lawlessness if it gets him what he wants - and to add to the morality of the whole situation, he did not begin out of self-interest.
I also live for those moments when the soundtrack plays and he’s at the lab mixing up chemicals; the light tinkling of glassware, the fizz of heat and effervescence. (I watch for science.)
