From: This is Lucas, my good boy. Bought him off craigslist and picked him up in the trunk of someone's car 12 years ago. He was diagnosed with cancer in November of 2019 and was given 3 months. Over the past eight years, Lucas had worked on translating. Making the sketches tactile was one thing, it was the written stuff that made it more complicated. Notes jotted in the margins, written in code, it wasn’t unusual for the books to double back or make references on other pages. To say nothing of the illegibility of the writing to begin with. He liked working in the library. He usually heard more background noise than most people, but the library in Red Creek wasn’t bad. Neither was the coffee. “when I suffered through french lessons,” he said quietly, “I didn’t think it would come back to bite me like this,” he turned to the person sitting near him, “do you know anything about braille?”
