Misc Mack headcanons <3
Mack has BIG superiority complex. He's worked incredibly hard to get where he is on the ship, and he's still just "one of the engineers" or "that nice errand boy". He hates that everyone seems better than him, when he's just as good if not better. It stems from a history of his good work never being acknowledged.
He's actually pretty quiet and reserved when left to his own devices, leading to him just getting through his work and end up asking around if anyone needs any menial tasks doing. It ends up making him feel better, in some way.
His role as an engineer is more of a broad one, more than just being set to the reactor core. In some aspects, he's more useful than an engineer who works solely in the reactor, as he has more knowledge of how to fix the various systems across the ship. Plus, having helped out around all the different areas of the ship, he's become a real jack of all trades.
When Mark and the Captain are busy, he tends to look after Chica for them. He keeps a dog bed in his private quaters for her if she ever decides that she wants to rest away from the duo at any time.
His favorite rooms of the ship are the oxygen and food production rooms. He likes taking care of all the plants, and when they land on the new planet he spends his spare time helping out log all the strange and new fauna and flora.
He remembers the warped universe where he was the head engineer, and he's had reality issues ever since. Of course, he denies the fact that he'd ever become some ruthless dictator, but the idea still scares him. Plus, the idea that he could be just written out of reality by something as simple as being told he's not supposed to be there is terrifying to him. Some days he doesn't think about it. Other days he thinks about it far too much.

If you met someone who was constantly saying racist slurs at someone, went out of their way to humiliate someone in front of the whole school, someone who complained to their parents about every mishap expecting them to fix it, someone who bullied children, someone who was a coward whenever things got real, and never showed signs of being a good person.
