It had been a sudden yell from Gina that had Ashlyn giving her the silent treatment these past 2 days.
She didn’t mean to yell at Ashlyn she really didn’t. She hadn’t gotten much sleep the night before and was stressed about her mom coming to visit. She had been a huge ball of stress and super irritable. She thought she had it under control. Though she obviously didn’t, because when Ashlyn asked he she could help she broke, in the worst way possible.
“ YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT IM GOING THROUGH ASHLYN” She yelled as she pushed by her and got her bag and exited the room. It was their lunch, which the whole café saw, their “ fight”.
It was a mistake, and now a day after even, Gina had calmed and the stress was little to none. She had a great day with her mom and it felt super nice to be with her, even if it was only for a day.
It was now the day after which was a Saturday and Gina had the night before planned a fun afternoon that hopefully Ashlyn would also be apart of. She wanted to apologize to Ashlyn but also spend a day just with her.
She knew Ashlyn had a doctor’s appointment this morning so she wasn’t there when she woke up. She decided to send her a quick text , just to check in and say good morning.
While waiting for her response, Gina got up and went downstairs to make some breakfast.
“ Morning Gina” Mrs and Mr Caswell greeted her as they were at the table reading the paper as she entered the kitchen.
“ Morning, do you mind if I make some pancakes?”
“ No sweetie, as long as you agree to save us 2, you are always welcome to make anything.” Mr Caswell replied.
Gina had never had a father figure in her life. Sure she had a dad once as she wouldn’t be here if she didn’t. Though she never met him as her mom told her . he left the two of them. He wasn’t meant to be a father. So having Ashlyn’s dad, sort of step into the role of a dad for her, was soothing. It made her smile, knowing that they were her temporary guardians. She loved living in a household with two parents. She had always been so jealous of kids with two parents , while she only had one.
She would never admit that to anyone though. Since elementary school , she had learned to not care as much. Her mother was more than enough for her. She loved her with all her heart.
Interrupted, her phone buzzed.
“ Hey G, sure I’d like to spend today with you. What did you have in mind?”
as she mixed the batter, Gina smiled. Ashlyn was way too kind her own good. Gina needed to teach her how it was okay to be mad at someone. She sure deserved Ashlyn’s wrath after what she did.
The stupid putting walls up for each new school she had been at was stupid. She was a kind soul and sure a little wall wouldn’t be bad, just not the great wall of china. She actually had friends here at east high. Friends who would be with her through everything. She was extremely lucky.
Soon the pancakes were on the griddle and being flipped. She had become quick the little cook since she had moved in. She always cooked for her mom, so she didn’t mind cooking some nights for the Caswell’s.
Soon the 3 of them were enjoying breakfast together. They caught up about what school had been like that week and plans for the weekend.
Soon after breakfast Ashlyn came back home. She was wearing just some jeans and a cute graphic t-shirt with a jacket over it.
“ Hey G, how are you today, the dentist was okay, until I found out that I had one cavi-“
She didn’t get to finish as Gina was instantly hugging her. She wasn’t expecting it as she thought Gina was still mad at her. She knew she had to give her space and let her work it out in her own time.
“ I am so sorry Ash, I was stupid and shouldn’t of yelled at you. I am sorry I took out my stress and frustration on you. I promise I didn’t mean to. Can we still be friends?” Gina asked with a puppy face as she had never done this before. She thought you had a one shot chance with being friends and then if you lost it then the friendship was done.
“ Of course we are. Gina best friends fight. It is normal, and completely part of a relationship. It was a small one but just know I’ll always be here for you. Your like my sister, and I wouldn’t want you out of my life for anything.
As Gina pulled away to wipe away the tears that were forming, she laughed. She was learning so much about friendships. She never had a actual best friend till Ashlyn. She now knew not to over panic, but still guilt was always an okay feeling after a fight.
“ Thank you Ash. You teach me so much and I truly am thankful for you. Now on with our day we have a full schedule today and I don’t want to waste another second!” Gina said before she walked into their bathroom to get changed and ready for their day.
