People should stop using ethnic groups in Europe that have been historically oppressed by other ethnic groups in power, in order to excuse cultural appropriation in the present. No, you can’t paint your body to resemble a racist stereotype or lock your hair because there is a chance that you have Pictish or Celtic ancestry (as an example; there are many more European ethnic groups that people use to excuse appropriation.) We’re talking about groups of people here whose religion has been bastardized and appropriated by racist groups in Europe, even today. We’re talking about groups of people who have lost their languages and lands. Why would you, in response to someone calling you out for doing something offensive, take another culture that you likely know nothing about, as an excuse for it? Them being mostly white doesn’t give you an excuse. It’s still appropriation, and you’re not trying to honor them anyways when you appropriate and stereotype cultures outside of Europe. So ???
