I spent part of my Sunday photographing a pretty sweet University of Michigan Formula SAE electric race car built by our engineering students.
The MRacing Formula SAE student team at the University of Michigan tested its 2025 electric race car in a North Campus parking lot as they prepared for an upcoming competition in June. The new vehicle, MR25, features a custom-built carbon fiber chassis, a 600-volt battery pack, and an all-wheel-drive motor system.
Founded in 1986, MRacing is Michigan’s Formula SAE team, backed by over three decades of engineering and design experience. The team continues to push the boundaries of innovation in vehicle design. Coming off a strong performance at Formula SAE Michigan—with a 3rd place finish in design and a win in the Garrett Powertrain Innovation Award—MRacing is more determined than ever to build a highly competitive car for the 2025 season.
