Big breakthrough moment in Cuba 🇨🇺! 3G internet service can be used from today for a fee ($10 for 1 Gb and $30 for 4Gb) in cellphones on the island 🌴. Does it mean that no more 2 am runs (cycling) to a WiFi Park with the strongest signal (seems it was La Rampa - 23rd Street) when no one else is connected so I can download work 1 GB big videos?? Probably, that will still be the case, because some jobs simply require laptop and “normal” connection in a WiFi Park or a hotel lobby where you are not charged by the data used but $1 per hour (still expensive), but it will definitely simplify life of many!!!! As we speak @thaira.music is writing me on whatsup from home!!! For the last 3 years I’ve been living in Cuba, it was my dream to be able to post comfortably since leaving the house to a WiFi Park or hotel and it happened just couple days after I left home to Europe for Xmas :( Well, this 3G cellphone service is definitely a huge step ahead, but the downside is that it’s extremely expensive not only for western standard but crazy expensive for cuban wages - Official government salary is anywhere from $16 - $40 for majority of people here) so do the math - someone will have to pay for it. And that someone might as well be you, if you have cuban friends (boyfriends, girlfriends) and you have recharged their phones before :) Also it will be Cubans living outside the Cuba that will pay the bills in order to communicate with their families :) Amazing business for phone company monopoly!! But hey, I’m not complaining... Better having an option to connect even for higher price than not having it. Actually situation was similar in Europe or US about 15-20 years ago when internet was first introduced :) #finallyonline #cuba #havana #habana #thisiscuba (at Havana, Cuba) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrD0rqBlMK7/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=13u5or3fmoelf
