An investigation into Ridglan Farms shines a light on a largely hidden industry that breeds and cages dogs for the sole purpose of experimentation.
Over 60.000 dogs a year are being experimented on in US.
They undergo a surgical procedure which makes it physically impossible for them to bark.
The level of propaganda that The NY Times is capable of doing is simply fascinating. In view of the recent revelations on Guardian by one of its (and worldwide) best journalists Glenn Greenwald, The NYT has published an article "Blogger, With Focus on Surveillance, Is at Center of a Debate". I clicked just to see who they mean, and I couldn't believe the article is in fact about Glenn Greenwald!
A blogger?! He is a first class journalist!
The blurry photo of G.G. added to the article is an additional spice to this disgusting propaganda that tries to paint G.G. as some kind of "obsessed" proponent of "anti-Americanism".
NYT, shame on you.
the extent to which opportunism is entrenched into nowadays culture is fascinating. the best is, it's not even a matter of shame anymore, people feel fine by openly expressing their opportunism, shying away from critical thinking as if there is nothing wrong with that.
Understanding the discourse of 25-35-years-olds
There are two key reasons why people >>25 like saying they're getting "too old":
they are increasingly fitting into social routine, managed by social expectations, loosing a grip on their own life;
it makes them feel mature, in reach of the "wisdom of life", capable of perceiving it from a certain high-up position (in any case higher than the one of those youngsters!!!).
While 1. may very well be the case, 2. is a cheap cheap illusion, based on no reasoning whatsoever (in other words, one-way ticket to being brain-dead).
So how many additional trees did the company kill so they could add this extra page about recycling to all their calendars? #sustainability #irony #environmentalism #thisishumanity
Understanding the Current Pop-Culture Discourse (part VI): Popular Online Vocabulary
Haven't posted these ones in a while. If you've missed the previous editions, they can be found through this link (and also one more here).
For today: two phrases.
1. "This." - If you wanna emphasize your overly enthusiastic agreement with what someone else has posted, all you have to do is say "This." You don't have to know or think about anything that supports what has been said, you don't have to find any arguments, let alone critical assessment of what has been said (who needs critical thinking nowadays anyway?!). All you have to do is write this neat little phrase.
Note: the point at the end is crucial. Without it this minimalist sentence becomes too immature, it gets some complexity, you know, and as everyone nowadays online knows "less is more"!!! So, you better stick to the point.
2. "Amen" - pretty much the same as 1. Except, this time you don't have to even use the point. Just stay away from the exclamation mark and you'll do fine.
"It is interesting," writes Barker [...] "that we readily accept someone loving more than one child, sibling or friend without their love for one of them diluting the love for others, but when it comes to romantic or sexual love most people cannot accept it happening more than once at a time."
