thisisnotindia (honestly curious, since it's a larger blog than youarenotdesi)
I'm pretty sure I still follow them. But I feel like it's mostly because I'm too lazy to unfollow so I just deal with it. They used to be a really good and informative blog but now? I don't even know what's going on anymore. At the same time, they're definitely nicer to their askers than other cultural appropriation blogs.
Send me a tumblr user and I’ll say what I think of them
Aw shit, I was so excited when I saw Herbivore Clothing and then I saw the white person dreads and now I'm kinda side-eyeing this one shirt with a very Indian-inspired pattern, I'm not sure if you could call it appropriation but I'm definitely gonna be on the wary side with this site now…I'm gonna try to verify with someone if it'd be okay to wear, it's super fucking cute but I wanna be sure.
If someone of Indian heritage knows if this shirt is okay and not appropriating anything, I would appreciate input if you have time (obviously not your job to inform me, but I would love the info).
PS: I guess I just assumed what culture this resembled, so it's possible I'm wrong.
Nobody does fashion quite like the Madhesi women. The tattoos, the jewelries, the bright colored saris, the strength to carry, feed tour entire country..I am a fan.
My friends from the South-East Nepal.
Can anyone recommend good/legit writings on orientalism (the fetishizing kind not the art)? It's for a paper, thanks!
A Good Sari game
At first I was hesitant to play this game at Dollsdivine. It felt like it was mocking Saris and indian culture but when I actually played it, it was totally different. Not only did it have a wide array of good skin tones(not 50 shades of vanilla with tan and darker tan, it had a good mix of browns) and different features(not only white!) and it actually had patterns and names of saris and other traditional wears.
Idk, I think it's a good game but I want more opinions. Could you guys check out the game and get back to me maybe? I think it's actually good and a fun way to show cultural appreciation over appropriation. It's wayyyyy better then Savannah girl(originally named Choco Girl) that just has "tribal" Afrikan things like animal prints and markings and such. Way better. I think it does justice, but then again, I'm not Indian.
Thoughts?
