Today, on #WorldGiraffeDay, Jewish National Fund - USA celebrates the amazing Ayalon Institute / The Bullet Factory - מכון איילון!
What do giraffes and heritage sites have in common ,you may ask?
Well, the Ayalon Institute-Bullet Factory had many back in the 1940s! ”Giraffe" was the nickname given to the kibbutz members who lived above the underground factory and didn't know its secret.
Why was that nickname chosen and what was the secret? It has to do with a British train, real giraffes and amazing chutzpah - and what was made In the ‘underground factory?
The story is incredibly inspiring and #JNF-USA works with the Society for Preservation of Israel Heritage Sites - SPIHS to ensure It’s not forgotten! If you haven’t yet visited, make sure to visit next time you're in Israel.
