💚🌟Today is #EstherDay, a day to celebrate the life of Esther Grace Earl. The best way to get you to recognize Esther’s name is as part of the inspiration for The Fault in Our Stars. But she was so much more than that. She was a writer, a #nerdfighter, an avid reader and learner and nerd, a dear friend and daughter and sister, a posthumously-published author of the wonderful book “This Star Won’t Go Out.” On August 3rd every year since her death from thyroid cancer in 2010 at age 16, we celebrate her life by remembering to tell our friends and family that we love them. I think we put far too much value on romantic love. That’s not to say romantic love is unimportant, but rather that it is not the be all, end all of our value. We are, each and every one of us, valuable and unique and special and ~wonderful~ in our own ways and that doesn’t have to be recognized by someone who thinks we are sexy, attractive, whatever. The love we get from ourselves, our friends, our moms and dads or whoever helped raise and shape us, is just as important as romantic love. And whether or not we possess the romantic love of another is not in any way, shape, or form a reflection on us. TL/DR: you’re gorgeous, talented, smart, valuable, and no one needs to tell you that except yourself. Tell your mom, your dad, your brother, your best friend, tell them all how much you love them. It’s just as important as telling your boyfriend or girlfriend or partner or husband or whomever.
