My most memorable christmas gift when I was a kid was the year my brother and I got popup tents. We lived in those tents in the living room until like the middle of January. I think I also got an EZ Bake oven that year and tried to use it to cook bacon. That year was so fun.

And my Christmas tree is small this year, and multicolored, because I have a 4 year old who likes to climb things he shouldn't and who loved every color imaginable. He's very creative, and very sneaky. So I got a little tree and put it on top of a table where he can't easily climb. But he loves it. He loves to stare at it at night and always asks me to sing him Christmas songs.

Here is a pic I added of our tiny tree. I haven't even done any wrapping yet. So its bare underneath. Thanks for asking!

  “Your sister’s cute.” Nid’s voice was suddenly in my head. I had to stop myself from shouting in surprise. 

  “What on earth, Nid. You can communicate telepathically now?” I demanded to know. “Never mind. Of course you can. Do me a favour and be silent for the rest of the morning.” Even in my head, it’s voice was whiney. 

  “Fine.”

"Here you go, rabbit." He settles down on the couch to wait.

  I don't recognize the number, but I pick up, anyway. Ryan has been known to randomly change his number and then wonder why we don't answer his calls. For all I know, he's done it again. I press the green button blinking on my screen and lift the phone to my ear.

  "Hello?" There is silence on the other end of the line. "Hello? Ryan?" I hear a shuffling noise that sounds like papers being moved. Finally, a voice on the other end says, "Jess?"

  It's not Ryan. I would recognise that voice anywhere if  the nickname hadn't given it away. Only one person was ever allowed to call me Jess.

Gentle

  An achingly beautiful little melody began to play, one that I had never heard before. It was soft, haunting, and low, seeming to carry the sorrows and bittersweet joys of many. It played for a few minutes before fading away. I turned the key again, eager to hear the song once more. Instead, another tune began to play, this one as lively as the other gentle.
