Finished watching Netflix’s “Archive 81″ horror series. It was a fun horror series, not the scariest thing ever but enjoyable. Solid 7/10 from me. Here are the highlights of my watch party (it was me, my sister, and my sister’s friend):
1) Thomas Bellows became a recurring joke during our watch party. As soon as we were introduced to the guy, my sister joked that Thomas’ vlogs would end with him going crazy. And sure enough, he did. So we were just joking about how obvious that cliche was.
2) My sister and I agreed that Melody Pendras staying behind in order to buy time for Jess to escape was the stupidest moment in the show. She could’ve just ran away with Jess. What makes her move even stupider was that the cult just found another person to sacrifice.
3) So many times in the series, we were joking about how awkward it was that Melody would bust out the camcorder just to film things. They were really pushing the suspension of disbelief during the scene where Melody confronted Samuel and had the camcorder on him the whole time.
4) Samuel’s nicknames from my group; George Clooney-lite, handsome cult leader, pepper beard
5) My sister and her friend kept making Ratatouille jokes because of Dan’s pet rat. At some point, we started giving Ratty a French accent, even though Remy doesn’t have one lol.
6) We kept joking about the series’ use of liminal spaces. At some point, I called the show “Backrooms: The Netflix Adaptation”.
7) Mark was our favorite character.
8) Aside from joking around, we also did a lot of theorizing. I kept suggesting that the series was about demons while my sister’s friend brought up aliens. My sister just kinda rolled with the theories. At some point, we joked that the series was actually a Stranger Things spin-off (The Otherworld = The Upside Down).
9) My sister immediately guessed that the “Melody Pendras” who Mark found was fake. Yeah, my sister’s pretty good at predicting plot points.
