THIS FROM THE MAN WHO TOLD THE REPULICAN PARTY ‘ONLY I CAN SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS’ TRUMP IS DICTATOR IN WAITING!
The speech to mark Independence Day was an official presidential address that at times felt more like a campaign event, and saw the president accuse “angry mobs” of deploying “cancel culture” to demand “total submission from anyone who disagrees” - referring to protests regarding statues of controversial historical figures.
“This is the very definition of totalitarianism,” he said.
George Conway, co-founder of the Lincoln Project and husband of Kellyanne Conway, senior adviser to the president, attempted to spell out what was said phonetically on Twitter: “Totallie-tario-tism”.
The president also appeared to struggle with saying "Ulysses S Grant", and appeared to briefly freeze while talking about Thomas Jefferson.
Other than mangling the word totalitarianism, its very use was questioned, given continued attacks on government oversight by the administration.
Many on social media decried that the president not only couldn’t pronounce the word, but also that he doesn’t seem to understand what it means.
Michael McFaul, professor of political science at Stanford University, said: “Trump obviously has no idea what words like fascism and totalitarianism mean. To those who wrote that speech, shame on you. To those that cleared on this speech, shame on you. Perhaps the most un- American speech ever delivered by an American president, on the eve of July 4th.”
Prayer for the Nation - Thomas Jefferson
“Almighty God, You have given us this good land for our heritage. We humbly ask You that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Your favor and glad to do Your will. Bless our land with honorable endeavor, sound learning and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties and fashion into united people the multitude brought her out of many nations and tongues. Endow with the Spirit of wisdom those to whom in Your Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Your law we may show forth Your Praise among the nations of earth. In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble do not allow our trust tin You to fail. Amen.”
--- Thomas Jefferson
So I saw a post where the gist was “Forget Theodosia Jr. and Philip, Thomas Jefferson had two daughters”, so I did a thing.
Who would be on your Mount Rushmore?
1. Thomas Jefferson
2. Abraham Lincoln
3. Martin Luther King Jr.
4. Robert F. Kennedy
Mr. Jefferson on Religion and America
I put these quotes together to make a point. This is neither a Christian nation, nor was it ever meant to be. This man Thomas Jefferson is revered in this nation as one of the greatest "founding fathers", yet a lot of people BECK, Bachmann (tea party et al), Palin, etc... and those who follow them and believe them, seem to think this man was overly religious and that the Declaration of Independence and Constitution laid the ground work for a Christian experiment and that there was some Christian (exclusively) divine order to the founding.
This country has and will survive because we believe in ideals, not dogma, not ritual, not out of our fear for what resides in the sky above us, but because of what the ideals we believe in. We strive for TRUTH and FAIRNESS and LOVE and TOLERANCE... though we are far from perfection and never will be (you can't make perfection out of imperfect situations and people), it is the journey...it is that struggle, to make tomorrow better than today, that we can rely on to make US stronger and more cohesive... So I wanted to share a few quotes to dispel the first myth about this great nation and one of it's greatest patriots.
"But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg"
-Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782
"Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because if there be one he must approve of the homage of reason more than that of blindfolded fear."
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 10, 1787
"I concur with you strictly in your opinion of the comparative merits of atheism and demonism, and really see nothing but the latter in the being worshipped by many who think themselves Christians."
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Richard Price, Jan. 8, 1789
"They [the clergy] believe that any portion of power confided to me, will be exerted in opposition to their schemes. And they believe rightly; for I have sworn upon the altar of god, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man. But this is all they have to fear from me: and enough, too, in their opinion"
-Thomas Jefferson
"History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purpose."
-Thomas Jefferson
"In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own"
-Thomas Jefferson
"Priests...dread the advance of science as witches do the approach of daylight and scowl on the fatal harbinger announcing the subversions of the duperies on which they live."
-Thomas Jefferson
I have many many more and will probably post them later, but this gives you a taste of what this GREAT PATRIOT of this union thought of religion and it's place (NO PLACE) in government and it's constant assault on FREEDOM and LIBERTY. Teach this to our children. Teach the truth to them and watch their minds open. We need people who are GOOD for the sake of goodness not because god/God/Allah/Buddha/Mohamed said so.
"Be good for goodness sakes." - Santa Claus is Coming to Town.. I think I will make that a post in the very near future too.
This is not to say that religion should not play a role in the lives of the people. Religion is a very good thing, but it has no place in the governance of people.
Until next time....
