Alva Noto & Opiate: “Opto File 1″ (Opto Files, Raster-Noton 2001)
This short-lived collaboration between Carsten Nicolai (a.k.a. Noto / Alva Noto) and Thomas Knak (Opiate) showcases what I’d consider an unlikely contrast between Opiate’s tiny beats and swooning melancholia and Noto’s glitchy textures and details, released in 2001 as one of Raster-Noton’s Static series in a tall anti-static bag. It’s now available again on NOTON, the online music shop for all things Alva Noto.
