Following a DIY approach, schalter.exe works exclusively with a self-built software synthesizer that mimics the quirks of late 20th-century IBM PC soundcards like AdLib or Soundblaster – the very hardware that defined the sound of that era. The lo-fi grittiness of schalter.exe's music reminds us that computers are clunky machines, operated by human hands. Being able to create such realistic cyborgs raises some interesting philosophical questions like what it means to be alive and if such beings deserve human rights as we saw discussed in the earlier segment. Personally, considering how life like(and beautiful) new girl looks as well as her obviously being able to reason and make connections with others, I’d say that makes you worthy of human rights.
