To prevent this from happening (if it were a game) you just wouldn't skip the first dialogue with Thomas!
Be a good friend to the puppy, don't deceive him, because there are already plenty of people doing that.
He only wants your friendship, nothing less, nothing more.
If that's the romantic path with him...
Always be honest and clear with him! And never let him go alone or stay alone! Always tell him to go with one of the support characters, especially Kir and Wade!
cw: none.
summary: Tomi does well, so of course Wade rewards him! That said, it feels like Wade might be a little biased toward him. . .
Thomas burst through the precinct doors with a stack of files he'd definitely already dropped twice on the way in — Wade could tell by the corner crease on every single one.
"LT! LT, I got the Hendricks paperwork done, see, all of it, I didn't even—" Thomas' foot caught the edge of a chair. The whole stack went flying anyway.
A few detectives didn't even look up anymore. This happened daily. Routine, almost.
Wade set down his coffee, unbothered, and crouched to start picking up scattered papers right alongside him. "Easy, easy. Got it?"
"Got it. Sorry. Sorry, Lieutenant." Thomas' ears drooped as he scrambled to gather the rest, all elbows and knees, way too much height for the amount of space he was trying to fold himself into.
Wade straightened the pile, glanced through it. Half the pages were out of order and one was definitely upside down. Didn't matter. He feels the corner of his lips tugging upwards reflectively.
"C'mere," Wade said, jerking his chin down — way down, because Thomas had a solid half-foot on him and then some.
Thomas blinked. "...What?"
"You did good. Bend down here, c'mon."
Thomas folded himself down without question, shoulders hunching, tail giving one slow thump against a filing cabinet, and Wade reached up to ruffle his hair, firm and easy, the way you'd congratulate somebody who actually nailed something.
"There he is. Knew you had it in you, kid."
"...I dropped the papers, sir."
"You picked 'em back up, didn't you."
Across the room, Kir didn't even glance up from his desk, just exhaled through his nose like he'd seen this exact scene forty times.
Because he had, truly.
Thomas' tail picked up speed with every pat, thumping harder against the cabinet until it rattled, and his whole posture eased — shoulders dropping, the tension from his earlier scramble melting right out of him. By the time Wade gave his hair one last ruffle, he was grinning, easy and wide, like the dropped papers had never happened at all.
To Wade? Maybe it didn't. He seems to look over every little mistake Tomi does anyway.

"Mc! I can't believe we've met again! How you've grown!! Do you remember me? It's me, Tomi! We were friends when I was child! Here! I still keep the brooch you gave me!"
I present to you, Thomas Volkov!
Thomas is your second childhood friend, and he considers you his best friend!
Thomas is 23 years old.
Don't worry, if you made an older MC, he'll still consider you a childhood friend; he was your neighbor when him were a kid, and you played with him a few times.
He's a dedicated person... but "terrible" at his job.
He ends up being very careless or oblivious.
He's just a simple cadet, a rookie in the police force; his nickname is Clifford because he ends up bumping into everything and knocking everything over with his size.
Apart from that, he is a very caring person who likes everyone.
This is Tomi, your best friend, feel free to send me your MCs (Y/n) so I can draw interactions with him!
•The boy crouches down hoping to receive a pat on the head, his tail wagging rapidly in anticipation•
Y/N: Chu!
Thomas: ?!
•The boy straightened up quickly, the tail stiffens, giving way to the sound of its accelerating heartbeat; his face as red as his hair, his cheek burning with the faint mark of lipstick•
Thomas: Ah... BEST FRIENDS DON'T DO THAT!
•He shrinks back, hiding his face•
He was extremely shy for quite a while after that.
Okay, I had to post something about Tomi's route, it was necessary.
• Tomi was enjoying a day off while waiting for his mother (me) to leave the store. As always, he was helping whoever he could, and he helped a child find their father.
• Wade
• Kir
Blackwell, Wade and Kir by @aesopsbaby
My son has two fathers.
I only made Kir's to feed into my friend's "Enemies to Lovers" section of Ace's blog.
