Stay With Me || Self/Open Para
Amelia took one last look in the mirror at the girl who was staring back at her. Her eyes told a tale of sorrow and heart break, but the soul within them was burning with a passion that she was ready to unleash out on that stage tonight.
The adventure of the past year was about to be displayed on under those white lights for all to see. At the last minute she'd changed her song and routine. With the encouragement of her friends and family, she'd drawn the conclusion that if she was going to get her life back in order and win Thomas back, she'd have to believe in herself and the idea of them or nothing would ever be resolved. If there was one thing she'd learned this summer, it was that she could no longer be driven by her fears. She had to use her fears to her advantage, while taking charge of her own life. That was just what she planned to do.
With those thoughts swirling in her brain, she stood to take her spot. She was on deck. In the pit of her stomach, a pile of guilt bubbled and boiled. But she knew that she'd have to let it simmer for now. Her future laid in the very hands of the next five minutes and she couldn't waste a moment of it. Though her original thoughts were to skip her recital, a hope and passion for Thomas that shined inside of her kept her head on straight. They would survive because she knew he was the one. She was ready to prove her actions wrong. The lights fell before her. She stepped onto the stage, taking her place behind the curtain.
Her heart began to pitter-patter against within her chest. The ray of sun that beat within it was only beginning to shine as the curtains opened up. As soon as the first notes rung out into the room filled to brim with faces, she let the ray of sunshine consume her every move.
Guess it's true, I'm not good at a one-night stand But I still need love 'cause I'm just a man These nights never seem to go to plan I don't want you to leave, will you hold my hand?
Every cell that made up her body could feel the heartache in the beginning of her number. The fears and turmoil that surged within her from everything with her social anxieties to the shooting were thrust out into the audience via the simple movements of her body. The emotions that were coursing through her veins were radiating off her body. As the light caressed her and hugged her body, flashes of the previous year swam around in her mind. But the music and her body was bearing the brunt of all that pain and pushing it away, giving it a place to be released.
Oh, won't you stay with me? 'Cause you're all I need This ain't love, it's clear to see But darling, stay with me
When the chorus rang through the auditorium, Amelia's movements shifted. The lights gave way to a jubilant, jumping girl with the finesse of a gazelle. The words rang true in her ears as she let the rays of sunshine within in her burst through. Thomas was where her mind danced off to as her body worked on autopilot. Her body and mind worked in tandem to create a soaring beauty that filled the entirety of the stage.
The moment they first met in the bathroom at the hospital flashed before her as she leapt across the stage, her heart swelling with pride, nailing each move with a grace she hadn't known she possessed. As the chorus progressed she could feel him breaking down the walls that she'd built so high and sturdy. One by one the bricks came down, only to reveal a boy that held her heart. The boy who took the sky that filled her days with beautiful rays of sunshine. He made her feel like she was special. That she had a story worth telling, and now here she was, spilling it out on to the stage for all to see.
Why am I so emotional? No, it's not a good look, gain some self-control And deep down I know this never works But you can lay with me so it doesn't hurt
As the second verse began to reverberate through her body. Their fights were what came to mind. Each fight they'd had involved him defending her, protecting her, caring for her, and loving her. But she'd pushed that off too, brushing it aside, as she wasn't able to love herself enough to truly feel the gravity of that love and protection. But when the chorus dropped for a second time, the understanding of his love was felt by the entire room.
Oh, won't you stay with me? 'Cause you're all I need This ain't love, it's clear to see But darling, stay with me
She was worth it. They were worth it.
The lights fell as the last note echoed through her soul. She galavanted off the stage, slipping through the back to avoid any and all people. She needed to get home to see Thomas immediately. She'd deal with the receiving end of her recital later.
