Thor II: The Dark World.
I’ve got a couple of gripes for the movie, so we’ll start with the little things first.
Thor, sweetie, my precious Asgardian Labrador, why didn’t you try to contact the Avengers? Or S.H.I.E.L.D.?
You know, the defenders of the planet that is about to be invaded?
You know, the ones who fought off the last invasion to this planet?
You know, the ones who have some idea of how to track portals and energy and shit?
Thor, sweetheart, what the actual hell?
I get that Thor was super worried about Jane and her condition, it makes sense to be concerned about a mortal/midgardian being possessed by an infinity stone.
I get how the absolute anguish of losing his mother and (supposedly) his brother may have clouded his thoughts and he just wanted to hit something.
I get how this was a situation Thor had never actually been prepared for in any sense of the word, so he was flying by the seat of his princely pants.
But Thor by this point knows he has allies on Earth.
Thor knows that an army is coming and most people on Earth are in no way equipped to deal with that.
Thor knows that S.H.I.E.L.D. was creating weapons to deal with alien threats, and the Avengers are a mighty force to be reckoned with.
But, instead, he essentially goes it alone.
Also, S.H.I.E.L.D. where the ever-loving hell were you?
I can forgive the Avengers not turning up, in particular Tony, because to my understanding, Tony is recovering from the shrapnel surgery at this time (I could be completely wrong about that, but it is my understanding) so no way is he going out onto the field, and the others are apparently spread to the four winds, but S.H.I.E.L.D. is supposed to be a global taskforce/agency, based in America yes, but their reach is supposed to be global.
Are you seriously trying to tell me that Fury randomly decided to drop all surveillance on not only Jane Foster and her associates, but on everything happening outside of America?
Because if you are?
I call such bullshit.
This is two movies that are within close timing, and S.H.I.E.L.D. appears to have temporarily ceased to exist when they might actually be useful!
Now, onto my big gripe/complaint/reason for this rant.
What the actual ever-loving, sanctity-breaking shit is with you Odin?!
You call yourself fair, wise and all-knowing, yet you then have that absolute farce of a trial for Loki? Where you don’t listen to him, don’t even let him defend himself or explain his actions?
You immediately dismiss everything your favoured son is trying to tell you about Jane, simply because she is a midgardian and “Has no place on Asgard”? Because she cannot hope to understand anything of Asgard and you disapprove of your son’s girlfriend/paramour/lover/whatever-the-hell you think Jane is?
You scold Thor for caring about Jane and Loki and Midgard, even though you banished him in the first movie because he cared for nothing beyond himself? Because you deemed him too selfish to protect Asgard and the other realms?
I just ...
I do not have words to accurately describe how much I despise Odin Allfather.
I mean, I respect that Odin does appear to genuinely care for Frigga, is saddened and angered at her death, and has to stifle his grief to continue on as king.
But, you cannot accept that your son genuinely cares and worries for a woman of Earth?
And though Odin himself is not responsible for the grudge the Dark Elves hold towards Asgard, it is a direct result of his Father Bor’s actions.
Odin, you are literally the son of the man who 1) started this pissing contest, and 2) hid the aether on Earth.
And you somehow don’t think this should involve you or Asgard?
I’m sorry, what happened to Asgard being the defender of the nine realms?
You know, because Asgard is apparently so superior to the rest of the realms and decided to lead them to protect them from outside forces?
If you weren’t a fictional/mythological being Odin, I would most seriously take a swing at you.
