her tiny one is tucked away into bed, there’s already been a few stories told to help lull the child to sleep. just as she’s tiptoeing out of the room, the voice cracks through the silence. should have known she wasn’t completely out yet. sif rolls her eyes and scoffs playfully. ‘you know you’re just as stubborn as your father?”  her stride brings her back to the bed and she climbs in once more to sit next to her. 

“i’ve already given you a dozen kisses. its not fair that you’ve made it seem as if i’ve given you NONE at all.” still though she bend down and kisses her small forehead and then her cheek and then attacks her with a barrage of playful kisses all over her face. “There? is that good enough now that you’ll FINALLY go to sleep?”

The girl had little care for his work, her silver-gold head on his lap before he could say no to her. Not that he would have. She was still too tiny to wrap her arms around him fully, just old enough to run her mouth, resting against his chest, expression thoughtful. “ Why do mother and father love war more than me, Paul? I miss them. “

he welcomes her with open arms, just as he always does. she’ll find him when no one else is around and bask in his gentle warmth. he suspects that she already knows how calming he can be, and for such a tiny girl, Torunn is extremely intelligent to know that he calms by default. her words do surprise him though as he brushes his fingers through her long hair once she’s settled against his chest. a sad thought it must be to wonder if her parents love war more than her. 

“I know that to NOT be true, in fact. they love you more than anything in this world. I am an empath after all. they are just trying to protect all the realms from the dangers and inherently everything they do is all about protecting you. it’s not the war they love. not anymore per say. they just love you so much they’re trying to protect you from the chaotic world they brought you into. and i know they miss you, but they’ll be back as soon as they can.”

the drink she’s sipping is nearly spat out of her nose, but instead chokes on it. a hand held against her chest, she clears her throat trying to figure out a decent way to acknowledge what her daughter has said. that’s one way of putting it, but at least she doesn’t know what that entails. at least, sif hopes not. 

“we do love each other a lot, my darling.” she’s lost for words, and she’s sinking quickly. how does she go about addressing this situation. “When you love someone so much... well why try to hide. you should definitely shout it as loud as you can. that way the world knows.”
