guys i think it's time for me to change my wallpaper theme bc i've had it for like a year now?? but im also like too sensitive to part with it 😭
gdi gege. i don't think satosugu should've effected me this much. literally altered my brain chemistry
jjk shibuya incident arc spoilers / analysis
disclaimer : a very casual analysis
i recently watched a behind the scenes clip of enoki junya (itadori's jpn va) recording the shibuya scene where he gets his body back and he's crying his heart out that he'd be better off dead. and it's a clip i've scene many times before especially when people on tiktok were clowning the studio for abruptly playing the 「specialz」 OP. at the time i didn't really have an opinion bc i was just scared to see everything else just rapidly intensify in such a short time.
but when i watched the clip again, comparing the raw version to the anime version, i will admit that i was a little disappointed. i felt like enoki junya's efforts were wasted for most of that dialogue to be covered up.
however i'm thinking more about it and it's actually really heart breaking? maybe i'm just really dense to have only figured it out just now, but i think the OP was thrown in there so suddenly because there really was no time, you know?
the incident was still actively going on. no matter how much yuuji wanted to scream and cry, no matter how much he wanted to end it all, he couldn't. i think it was an aural cue that was supposed to give us the feeling that there was no time to process all those emotions.
also rewatching that scene with this in mind i think that (especially with the intensity of the OP) it was supposed to send alarms ringing in your head that oh shit this isn't going our way. itadori immediately bounces back and right in
11:07pm marks sukuna v mahoraga
11:14pm - a mere seven minutes later yuuji witnesses nanami's death while there's some overlap of nobara v mahito double
11:19pm - yuuji again witnesses someone dear to him (nobara) become fatally injured.
literally less than 12 minutes, it just kept snowballing.
i think it also really hits when you take into consideration the direct translation of 渋谷事変編 (shibuya jihen-hen) 「the shibuya incident」.
while the translation of "jihen" isn't incorrect, what should be noted is that it's a term that isn't used as often as "incident" implies in english. none of the sorcerers knew that they were walking into a literal war that night. they sensed something, they found the mole (kokichi aka mechamaru), but no one could have possibly imagined this level of emergency.
anyway, tldr : i stand by the studio's choice to throw in the 「specialz」 OP but maybe i just wanted to cry tonight lol this was also much longer than i intended, apologies 🫰
