Red circuits glowed softly on Beck’s suit. He missed when it was so connected to his body. The awkwardness that came with a User’s body had returned cycles ago and he despised every bit of it. He didn’t mind operating with damaged code. He could not perform his functions this way. He couldn’t secure the system for CLU this way.
He hadn’t yet found his admin since they last parted, either. He needed to find him. He needed direction on how to use this body effectively. Yes, he’d learned to deal with the occasional hunger and thirst, but he was still lost without a means to fulfilling his purpose: Secure the system; make room for perfection.
He wasn’t sure if he could trust anyone in the new system. Most of them looked like Users or some sort of unknown entity. Beck did not want to attract attention to either party. He’d rather talk to a fellow program, if there was one.
There was someone who looked not quite like a User and not like the unknown entities. Perhaps he could trust her. Perhaps she had seen his admin. “Excuse me, program” he said, walking up to her. His body was as still as he could make it. Unnecessary movements cost too much energy. “Do you know where the admin is?”
